What the Hell is this?! (Help me out!?)

Alright took these yesterday while drying my car and detailing it. Usualy I wash my car and let the supposed "spot free drying water" do its job but I was in a rush and said screw it and started to dry it myself. I opened up the doors and then the sucide doors. I was drying down below and WHAM I see it.. rust mayhaps or sumthing.. I checked the rubber and it seemed like something was there and upon staring at it it seemed like the paint had bonded to the weather stripping. I was shocked and went to the other side of my baby and noticed the same damn thing!! I took pictures right away and then finished drying my car.

So question my fellow Rx-8 owners.. wtf is causing this and if anything is or would it rather be covered under warrenty. I hardly use the sucide doors and only the passenger side has been opened if all else to let someone sit back there (only 3 times btw). Running my fingers over the spots its ruff to the touch but doesnt feel as if its been chipped but rather ripped if you will off from the body. I dunno I'm lost and frustrated right now any help would be great.

friction + paint = ? you tell me... if you dont have warrenty(which mazda should cover the damage) use sandpaper and try to take as much rust out as possible. primer and use toucher up to prevent more rust. next time dry your door jambs and everything after washing your car because the minerals in water will soak into the paint and cause peeling and rust.

another idea to prevent friction and rust beneaf those parts is the same plastic material used for clear car bras. you take a strip and place it udnerneaf the plastic before fastening the plastic on. it will prevent standing water and friction from contacting the paint and metal.

upload pics to photobucket.com after you make an account there... after youve uploaded the pics look for something that saids "" ... copy that and past it in your post and wah lah.

Go to a specific forum and select "New Thread."

You may be having a problem because you are not in a forum. When I come here, I typically look at "New Posts," which is a search; you can't start a new thread from a search screen (not to my knowledge, anyway). So, I have to go to a forum (e.g., RX-8 Discussion) in order to post a new thread. Someone with more experience can correct me if I'm wrong.

Sad my thread got hi-jacked by someone asking how to post by making a post... I'm confused...... lol

Well hopefully wed when I take my car in I'll tell them about this odd *** rust spots and they'll fix it for free. I could understand if it was outside and caused by a rock knicking my paint but this is well in the doorwell and once more I hardly ever use those doors.

Clavius the problem you are having was posted by Rosenthal Mazda as a problem with rx8's 04-05. I took my 8 to the dealer and they took care of it. http://www.finishlineperformance.com...01-05-1427.pdf

Dude look at this link and the long list of bulletins. Good luck, Nick

No not at all, If you are still under warranty and all. Print out the bulletin from the site and take it to them. When I took it in to my dealer, he (the *****r) pulled out his copy. They went ahead and kept the car for a week and fixed 9 bulletins from the list. They even switch out my two head light covers, the car looks nice. Oh they gave me a rental.

Yanno what I think I might just ask for a service report of my car while I'm there. I got a carfax report for the car and its always been brought to the same dealer just not sure if its only been for oil changes. BtW what was wrong with the headlight covers?? I'm noticing mine are well oxadized(sp? its late lol) a bit to much for only being about 2 years old my mothers car is 4 and hers are clearer than mine. I just dread I'm not gonna have my car for 2 weeks this time around oh well its only Sunday night 3 more days to worry about this then.

iirc there was a recall about faded oxidized headlight lense too. ask your dealer and ask them about the recalls on your car.

Well talked to my mother who is a major ball buster with certain things and she noted I should do what I thought I should do which is first play stupid about getting a service report for my car since its only been brought to that dealership for anything (atleast that is what carfax has stated). After that my plan is at the moment to ask them to go over all the possible TSB's for my 04 Rx-8 since there are already 2 items which have been missed since I've bought the car. A A/C amplifier issue and the brake pad squeeling issue. Now this door sill rust issue showing up. My Mazda dealership gets reimbursed by Mazda correct for any recall work? I would assume so, I just hate having to be "One of those" Customers (I work in retail) and hope I dont have to turn into one to get what I want.

BtW thanks guys for helping me out why I love this damn board so frigging much!!! you all rock!!

Well got good news! They are gonna take the car next Wed and repaint those sections of my car. Covered under warrenty of course so no charge to me!! The Service Manager came out and checked the car out with me and he started to suggest its natural if "I've" scrapped it. I quickly mentioned that I "Read on a Rx-8 forum site that...." and he then checked out the other side then said "yeah that will be covered under warrenty then.... hehe.. I'm sooo happy now I gotta buy ink for my printer so after its painted they can install these protector thingies that the TSB someone linked me to mentioned
