i wasnt looking for your comments on my post is something wrong in your life where you must criticize everything someone says?

its people like him on the forum that will make you not want to ever post on the forum becuase they attack you for no reason

i mean you didnt specify you wanted me to proofread and get my post published before letting you see it did you polishdemon?

and thats fine if you dont like handouts from parents i consider myself lucky for what my parents have provided for me which includes public schooling despite what he believes haha ive passed every class exceptionally never in one was i told formality and use of grammer is needed when sending an informal, un proof read, rapidly typed post

and if my grammar really bothered you that much instead of criticizing why didnt you fix it? haha some ppl juts agervetes ya wen dey dnt usee cowect gwamma dnt dey?

Counter-own, crickey!

I was somewhat in the OP shoes, i worked hard to get my car and it was definitely worth it..love it...once you get it you'll appreciate the wonderful drive experience it provides.

That's too much car for a highschool kid, especially for a first car.

Your parents would have to be crazy to let you have one.

Im a junior in highschool, got my rx8 when i was 16 as my first car. Was in a minor accident but it wasnt my fault so.. and its actually not too bad on insurance since its considered a 4 door.

My parents were worried about me getting it in stick though. They knew it was faster, plus i bought my car without even knowing how to drive stick. I had a friend drive it to my house, and i taught myself within 2 hours.

I just sold my parents when i said: "I cant really text and drive, since its stick and all".. even though its total bs because its possible, but i dont do it anyway.

Yeah...it was the insurance that worried me. I want this car sooooo damn bad...but the insurance price might ruin it. Damn.

Why an "8"

True Story,

In 2004 when I bought my "6" (I also have an 04 "8" now too) there was a guy in the dealership picking up his second 8 in a like 3 months. Seems there was little left of the first one. He was minding his own business and went through a green light, someone was not, ran a red, and plowed into him and his buddy. In his words, he heard a loud bang, followed by a lot of smaller bangs. The air bags went off. When it was all over, he and his buddy were a little sore, but got out. Seems the car was a complete wreck, and had been hit on all sides. The smaller bangs was the car bouncing off other cars in traffic that they got knocked in to. The ended up helping the other folks. Seems he is now a true believer in the "8". I know I would want my kid driving in a car that safe, he just cannot have mine.. The daughter does have my "6" though.....

Only issue for a kid, rear visibility, especially out the quarters, sucks big time, real big time. Always look twice, pretend someone who wants to hit you is hiding over there.

Good luck.

I agree with anyone who said buy your own car. It shouldn't be your parents decision if you're buying it and driving it. Tell them to save their money and help you with school, that's whats important.

Let us know what they buy you.

Rx8 came out when i was a Senior in HS.. Ive been "obsessed" with it ever since, and finally bought when 2 months before my 24th birthday.
I HIGHLY recommend buying one NEW, and not used. Because theres no telling what the previous owners did to the car before they traded it in, or sold it. or what the dealer or seller is hoping you dont find out before you buy it.
I bought a car, that i test drove, It drove PERFECT, shifted great, no problems no rattles nothing..... On the way driving it home, we noticed the first problem, Shifting into 2nd gear was grinding, which was weird because it didnt do that on the test drive. (we found out 2 days later that the 1-2 Synchro is broke, a 1200$ fix)
Also on that day, we noticed a Rattle coming from underneath the car.. We jack the car up, crawl underneath the car and im tapping on the Cat, and as soon as i do, Theres that Rattle! So another EFFING problem and we just ******* bought it Wednesday.

Every used car has issues, but... These cars.. man! they got issues upon issues upon issues. So i suggest if you cant afford to have it fixed constantly, i wouldnt suggest buying a rx8 until after college lol

Good luck on selling the parents on the rx8, because if they find these forums and read about the problems lol they totally wont buy it for you lol

RX8 + AP with Parent Tune - Redline at 2000 RPMS, max throttle 20%, etc....haha

I bet they'll be "ok" with it then. Tell them the 8 plus 400 bucks gives them electronic big brother overlord potential.

U get in trouble, 8 gets neutered....

The way a kid can "work for it" is being a good child, getting the marks through hard hours of study, earn their trust to a point where his/her parents choose to award him/her with a great car.

I had my 8 since i was 18, not a single crash / accident / scrape / even a speeding ticket and it has been 3 years now, and i red line daily.

Well what i did the convince my parents was to push them for a rx7 FD "granted at that time i really wanted one"

Since my dad is from Japan and has always been into the sports car scene, he advised my mom against it (they are divorced)

So then when i suggested the rx8, with less power, less fun, newer car, better electronics. I got it next week.

Hope this helps :P

Regards
Jason

Just tell them that it has 8 air bags in it. Earlier this year I hit a Cement barrier at 65 Mph head on. All that happened to me was a broken finger.
Also tell them you have an amazing RX8 community to help you out with all you problems. also here is a link to a local Chicago forum.

haha it has to be within reason.

i had a price set for me, i shopped around within that price.

so option a: was rx7
then option b: 350z
option c: rx8

Anyways she wanted me to get the 350z, but i was not allowed to drive that under law from here.

So was rx7 -> rx8

around same price here. So if you can prove safety and reliability its what all parents want

I got my '8' when I was a sr. in high school. Deal was my parents would pay for half of it if I paid for half of it. No wrecks or anything. Insurance considers is a 4-door 4-cylinder, which costs me about $350/6 months for full coverage. I wouldn't recommend this car for a first car, I owned 3 cars before I got the '8'. If I were you I would honestly go for the 4-door Si, they are fun cars and they are pretty quick too. Plus you can pile all your friends in there(if you have any haha).

Hah thanks everybody so far. I love how it's a heated debate for yes/no for a first car and for any teens pretty much ;]

Anyways, @Stingray - I don't have friend, the hell do I need space for? xD

Besides that...yes I do know this thing may be considered too powerful for a first car...but hell, it's amazing. I don't know why, but I can't think of any other car I'd want.

I know you all are giving me reasons for/against it, and it's just incredibly hard to sway me away.

Again, we'll find out in the summer *if* I even end up getting a car...hehe.

Thanks, I think I'll just end up trying my *** off. It'll be hard to pay for a portion of the car, but whatever I'll be able to pay for I will do.

It's a powerful car but you may ask for a driving course in the end
Just see if you can afford the right maintenance and eventual repairs.

Whatever you get, sports car, economy car, luxury car, whichever.

Just be grateful to your parents no matter what decision they come up with, spare them the attitude and teenager emotions.

Family > Cars

You'll understand a decade or so from now.
