Tires

What are the widest tires that can be put on the rear using oem 18" wheels?

I believe stock is 225/45/18

As what tires do you recommend and why?

I'll be the first to say SEARCH...

If you look through the Wheel and Tire thread you'll get all your answers. Everyone's preference is different, so buy what you can afford, need, and most efficent to you.

I run 245/45 but, i'd rather run 245/40. So... 245 is the widest, IMO, safely you can run.

negative. you CAN put 255s on. but you realistically want 245s max.

i run 245/40s. very happy with them.

8rotor8, what don't you like about the 245/45 vs. 245/40?

the 245/40 has a smaller sidewall, it makes the ride harsher. you feel more bumps.

how's the 245 affecting acceleration and also handling? Does it hamper turn-ins?

Only because 245/45 rubs the rear fender and the front when I do U-turns. I have RB springs, but my wheels are +35 offset, it's tight already, about 1 finger gap. But I do have to say that, 245/45 has a really smooth ride. Another thing about running 245/45, the Bridgestone are like curb huggers, you will never scrap with those tires

You'll defantantly handle better with the wider tires, but even if you stay with the stock size, and just buy a good set of tires and that will do the trick too.

Indeed, but 8rotor8 cited he wanted to go from 245/45 to 245/40.

I run 245/40/18's Falken 452's on the back and 225/45/18's Falken 452's on the front....good tire but strictly summer tire do not drive in snow with them.....great traction and pretty good wear also...

It's been a while since I went from 225's to 245's and also note I went from the stock Potenzas (a summer tire) to Khumo ASX (a high performance all season) which could be alot of the reason for the differences. That being said, the biggest difference I noticed was much more grip on the greasy streets of Waco when I lived there. Acceleration seemed somewhat affected as their was clearly less drama on a ***** out run form 0 to whatever (no more chirp when shifting to 3rd and sometimes 2nd but you can probably factor in clutch wear there also) but probably not a difference my butt-accelerometer would pick up. Turn-in is definitely more neutral and it seems the car felt more planted in and out of turns giving much more confidence and less oversteer out of. It also seemed the car was a little more stable overall at highway speeds (less darty). I don't think I've really wrung it out like I used to when I first got it so I can only give average street assessments.

The are completely flush - no bulging out at all. They look less rolled-in. To me they look more natural, less stretched (side-to-side) than how they came from the factory. I'll get a pic up if I get a chance. Mine are 245/40/18's and I really felt no difference in ride comfort from the stocks.
