I hope they're serious and not messing with you! It would be one hell of a coup to pull off an honest-to-god great deal in ONE DAY!!
Took me about 3 1/2 weeks of saying no over and over to get them to sell me the 8 at the numbers I initially offered. F8cking salesmen calling me twice a freaking day . . .
Good luck!

^^^ Funny . . my deal sat on the table for 3 months. I made the offer and they sat on it for a long time.
Make sure you have your financing done too.
The dealer will try to get you there, that way they can make a few more bucks on you.
Or take whatever financing they give you, then refi through a different bank immediately. (that actually screws the dealer out of money)

Well, I haven't 'won' anything yet; but I'm close! The deal is already pretty damn good, but for me to pull it off he still needs to come down a bit. For anyone looking and actually needs a new car, I would do it right now as the deal is laid out. It is pretty darn good and the sales manager seems reasonable enough.

Wow, that sounds like a great deal. Makes me feel kind of bad at getting my '05 8 at such a high cost. But it was the first deal I've made with the dealership. Congratulations on the bargaining and hope it keeps going in your favor.

It is a good deal, but is not the deal they made it out to be initially.
It still comes across as a hook - just tried to get you talking about moving into a new model but not at a real blockbuster type of deal. If they move the car at "cost" (which they're not) they aren't taking any kind of hit to attain their bonus (if that's even really part of the equation) PLUS they get an extra 3+ years of interest from you.
Since we already know ChrisM's buddy got one at 25,800 (& consider the $300 difference between GT & Anni. Ed as insignificant) - we also then know that your dealer is full of chit when he tells you his cost is 27,692. Especially since, even if Chris's freind is a stellar negotiator, we can assume the dealership still didn't LOSE money selling it at 25.8

there is only about 3k difference between invoice and sticker but we all know there is holdback to play with.....and depending on the size of the dealer and units they move the holdback differs.....there is no rebate on 08's right now so the factory isnt giving incentives......in ohio right about now is the worst time to sell one of thesse because demand is nearly zero....use this to your advantage along with the re-design coming in the near future.....im sure the dealer didnt mind losing so much on klepto's car because they took the trade in at a decent price and could make the loss up on retailing that car....

Why are you bothering to spend so much to get a newer RX-8 when you could fix every single thing wrong with your car and put a huge warranty on it (or mod the crap out of it - one or the other), for much cheaper?

Plus, I know the logic is flawed here, but if you're married, you'll understand. Surprisingly, it's easier to convince my wife to go new with no money of the account for things like better suspension/etc. than simply paying a couple thousand to do it all separately.
Not to mention, my warranty (power train part) on the 04 ends 1 year from now. Knowing my luck, the engine will bomb right when the warranty expires. To be fair, I haven't looked into extended warranty costs yet.
Thanks

Plus it's a brand new car. duh!
Wives are like that though - they may not spend $200 bucks on something b/c it's a lot of money, but put 'em in a store with shoes [or whatever their fix may be] and they have no problem spending $50 four times.

Plus, having a new car is nice. I mean, mentally reassuring because age does terrible things to cars. (Though financially I agree about the extended warranty/fixing things seperately)

Well, just heard from the dealer. He said things were falling into place for them so he doesn't think he'll need my sale. Net, no $25K. But last offer still stands @ $26,192. Still a great price, but I passed. I told him to keep my info and call me Feb 28 if he needs a sale next time!

Yep, strangely I not feeling all that bothered by it. It's one of those easy come, easy go situations. BTW< dealer is King's Mazda. Seemed reasonable all along. No real pressure on either side was my take. Who knows, maybe it'll still be sitting there in couple of months and they'll get real desperate when the 09's start to show up.

Good job holding out like that. You never know they may call back still. I can't hardly handle myself in those situations. I get the new car fever and crack...

This is the icing on the cake for the battle of the misinformed poster battle....
You are always at the advantage with a dealership, at least in metropolitan areas.
THis very liekly si not a cheap parlor trick. Mazda is BIG on objective based dealer cash. I have worked at a store, where for the last three days of the month we were passing the compklete savings on, and then the last saturday night we spent until 11 pm, entering 3 more protege's we "bought" for the dealership as service loaners with the bonus money we got by selling 3 more. It was $1500 per car x 40 cars, less the discounts we gave out= three free protege's. If a dealer misses the bonus and lets any dela walk out all month he's a moron. After I doubted Chrsm's pricing story earlier in the month, I am now CONVINCED that this was indeed corect. IF that dealer was as big as he says, they already knew they would whit the number, and therefore made sure they did by not walking anyone within reason.
The deal described on the thread was a LOSS for the dealership, unless it was what got them to the number. It sounds like Mazda was giving $1500/car, based on the second discount. $15k for your trade is HIGHWAY ROBBERY, even if you'd eat off the floormats with such low miles that car isn't worth $13k wholesale. I jsut saw an '04 FT NAV 6 speed clean as a whistle with 30k go for $11300 on wednesday at PADE.
You jsut missed out on a great opportunity for a helluva deal. That doesn't mean it wasn't the right move for you. Mazda will likely be giving that money away as Customer Cash soon, and the figure will go up as the new body gets closer to our shores. IF it feels right, go for it.
Edit... oh yeah one more thing... sales must be reported to Mazda by midnight of the last day for these contests, so there is no fudging... you lost a month of warranty vecause you bought a car that had been "punched" to reach an objextive... a horrible and common practice.

It depends upon how much you owe on your current car.
If you can walk away clean from it that would be the deal.
How ever you will always pay more.
Now you have to start payments all over again. They maybe higher too.
So two more years of payments plus a $1000 loss for the new tires you bought.
Any deal even if good will cost you money in the long run.
