I am looking at a few different options here, im looking at 2004 and 2007 cars. I am wondering if these might be some good deals...

all seem to be in very good shape and taken care of well.

 

Where are you located? The price on the 04' is about 1500 too high if it is real, really clean. And obviously those prices depend on model (GT, Touring, Sport, Base, Automatic, etc.)

This car is a good deal from what I can tell. Sell the the Failside front end and go with an Autoexe and you will be set for the street and the track.

 

I believe they are all sport.
I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

 

Hmmm, Sport means no DSC, sunroof, Bose, etc. I think. Ask around your regional forum, I'm not sure if DSC helps in the snow or not. I would think it would be very important.

DSC is Dynamic Stability Control.

A sport can have DSC, it's an option. It actually doesn't help much in the snow, I had to turn it off this morning to get out of my driveway (it cuts throttle when the wheels start to spin).

I'd get the '07 if I were you, only 1k more than the '04 MT and the '07s have the bugs worked out for the first series. You don't want the '04 AT, trust me.

 

Ok I was leaning more towards an MT. But isn't it true that if the recalls are done on the '04's then it should be fine?

 

Well, not all of the bugs have been worked out (tail light condensation, MIAC, visors, glove box rattle, etc.). You still need to premix the fuel, and change the oil religiously to help your engine last. But yes, many things have been addressed. If you can afford a 09' sport (about 22k) get that because the 09's have the Series II Renesis which appears to have all of the mechanical fixes needed to eliminate the engine problems.

You are aware of the engine problems right?

 

Get the newest car you can afford still under warranty.

 

I know that there are a few things that need to be done such as checking the oil often, not stopping the engine cold, changing the oil religiously. What engine problems are you referring to?

A 2007 for just a $1000 more than the 2004? Why are you even considering the 2004? Resale value alone makes the 2007 a no-brainer, all things equal.

 

The only thing I want to point out (I am sure 9krpmrx8 will cover the rest) is to stay away from the automatic. You will not enjoy the renesis! Get a manual and rev up to 9000 rpms. Further, the automatic seems to be more sensitive than the manual. They also have less hp.

And DSC helps in the snow... but to a point. I usually play with it back and forth depending on the conditions. Its good to have the option. It does help in the rain though.
