Get a lawyer. That is pretty crappy on their part. Honestly, I thought the only recommendation was to not use Mobil 1 synthetic because of an additive in it that could damage the seals. I may be mistaken, but that may be in the owner's manual. But I don't recall ANY mention of synthetic not supposed to be used.

Interesting to say the least...

I have an 09/03 build that has been maintained by the dealer for 85K. They use the Motorcraft 5W20 Semi-Synthetic each change. Wonder why you are having to go through this hassle? It's just BS if you ask me. All of us '04's should be dealt with, with special priority if you ask me. We launched the damned car for them.

I just recently had a engine replaced I was at 85k and I had to produce reciptes of oil changes for the last year and I used full synthetic. It took Mazda an extra week to approve it and told me to never use synthetic again. I told the service manager It never showed in the drivers manual, like it should state not to use synthetic. Which my car is a 04 also But those records are to prove that you got the changes and took care of the motor. And to top it off you had a creditable biz doing your oil changes. Who did you talk to , someone at the dealer or someone at the Mazda corporate office? You need to get the actual copy of the updated warranty and take that **** to a lawyer and have them stand by the warranty. Thats how I got my new motor.

uncivilizedracer, this is great to hear. would you be able to somehow put the information on here or something. I talked to the dealer, the regional service rep, and MNAO via the 1800 number. When I talked to the regional service rep I told him that most drivers use synthetic so it's kinda retarded to not approve my claim. He then said that no one has been approved had they of used synth. If I can take that and shove it in his face he would have no choice.

What warranty book are you all talking about? just the hardcopy that is like 2-3 pages for the extended warranty? I want to make sure I know what you are referring to.

Nemesis, could you give me the number and info for your dealer? I would like to contact them. I remember I asked the dealer's parts worker what kind of oil they used and he told me it was synth blend, but obviously can't prove that. So I bought a tape recorder

this is BS! im looking at the owners manual right now. all i see is: "RECOMMENDED OIL" nothing about dont use syth. cause you wont get a new engine... lol go to the dealer and show them the book and tell them that they fail and if you dont get a new engine then you are getting a lawyer and **** is going down.

edit: if you can go down to a diff dealer and be nice to them tell them your prob, they will look diff at you...

DLASH15,

I am attaching the letter sent to owners in regards to the 8/100K warranty. This is what you are trying to use the cover your engine. Nowhere in this letter does it state you cannot use synthetic oil. It mentions a RX-8 DVD with maintenance TIPS, NOT requirements. The section of this letter that is most important is #4 Your Responsibilities and besides being able to prove oil changes and the other being "Maintaining your Mazda Vehicle in accordance with the instructions described in your owners manual" in your case a 2004 owners manual.
If Mazda still takes the 'take us to court' approach you might look into the option of using smalls claims court. Many states have a limit that will more than cover an engine install. By naming a couple higher ups at the Dealership & Mazda they might just settle instead of having to go to smalls claims court for half a day.
