Adding oil ever so often and red lining it atleast once a day isn't a big difference...Unless there's a list of atleast 10 other things you need to do to the 8 that you don't have to worry about in any other car I don't think she'll have much on her plate.
I mean honestly, why is it a few people make it sound like it's rocket science to take care of your car...

If you drive it nicely, don't drive it like you stole it 24/7, check the oil, redline it atleast once day after the engine is warmed up then you should be fine.
And if you ever hear something "out of place" search it on the forums or make a post and ask the dealership.
Just like any other car you own, as long as you're not an idiot, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

K. Well today me and my parents went and drove around 45 mins to the closest dealership that had a AT. So my parents were like ahh at the price but liked it. My mom says if i get a red one she has to have a black one.
I asked the man about the oil. Basically said yeah you need to check it. Everyone should check their cars blah blah its no big deal. The i asked about driving it crazy and hes all yeah its built to be driven rough and it will last awhile and basically said if you didnt it would last longer. And he said before you cut it off with it barely on long to rev it to 4,000 rpms. Not much different from the stuff I hear on here.
So i drove it. Had no clue where we were going since the dealer didnt come along. We ended up getting lost. But the car is different. It is harder to see out of. It is smaller than mine. Dont have to push hard on the gas or brakes for them to work. The key thing was weird, but interesting. The sunroof is small but opens fast. I like how i can see most of the front end of the car while driving. They do take curves and turns well. But not bumps as good as my cobalt does. Its not horrible like my moms suv though. Nothing big of a problem. The guy swears if i want one around $27,000 I would have to get a Touring or Grand Touring with like nothing really on it. Also says the white pearl or whatever it is, is a great color. I'd still prefer the yellow.

Yeah. If it was still being made I would have to choose it. Also the car smelled really bad. The man said its because it only has 8 miles on it. How long till the smell goes away?

Most driving is severe service. Mazda's 5000 vs 7500 is a little unusual. Typically, one changes the oil twice as often as the standard change interval.

This car will, in fact, last longer if you drive it a bit harder than normal. If you drive it like you stole it 24/7, then of course it's going to see lots of wear and probably be more prone to failure. If you put your foot down for a short stretch about once a day, the car will thank you.
As far as changing the oil and all, you're young, so he was giving you the "idiot story." Yeah, of course you need to change the oil, all cars need their oil changed, blah blah... and so on. While that's all true, this car DOES need a bit of extra care. Probably about 1 qt of oil between changes and you will need to do your oil changes at very regular intervals. This car literally consumes oil, so it is imperative that there is plenty to go around.
One final note - for the love of God, get an MT. Simply take the two or so days it will take you to get comfortable with what you're doing and you'll be MUCH happier with your choice. If you stick with the AT, as soon as you ride in an MT, you'll be kicking yourself. I assure you it is by no means a hassle - it's so easy, I can even instruct you via these message boards.

Oh and I see you said you lost control once in your Cobalt, which scared you. I'll be honest and tell you that this car can and WILL get out from under you if you're not quite sure what you're doing. Mine got out from under me once or twice in the rain, but luckily I've had some instruction, so I was able to recover relatively quickly and safely.
My suggestion? Just take your Cobalt out to and autocross, find an instructor to ride along, and learn about vehicle dynamics. It's pretty easy on your car (despite the sounds it may be making), lots of fun, and a great learning experience. If you get an 8, you NEED to take it out there. Rear wheel drive is completely different from front wheel drive and it's very important that you understand how it will behave. This car handles very well, but it is by no means infallible.
Hell, failing that, you could even learn basic vehicle dynamics by playing Forza 2 if you have a 360 (take it all with a grain of salt, of course). My first time autocrossing, my only experience was with Gran Turismo and none of the instructors believed that it was my first time out. You can also check out www.turnfast.com for some theory - any little bit helps!

This car is nothing like a Cobalt. Your car handled the bumps better because it has a crappy suspension, the RX-8s suspension is stiff, so it will feel like that. Just be sure to check your oil and redline the car once a day and you'll be fine!

Well, around here i have no clue where I could do that. I really wouldn't have the time. And what happened in that car will not happen again. It was due to my bf and him wanting to drive the car and jerked the wheel.
And for MT. No my parents would not let me. Considering it goes faster. To much stoping and going. I stall it to much or whatever. I like it but cant deal with it 24/7. Just something more for me to worry about. Im sure i would love it. But I dont need th at now. I dont really care about the speed or racing. I just want a car i love.

It's not just to be faster, really. I mean, yeah, it is faster and that's a pretty good reason, but it also gives you more control over the car and rather forces you to be pretty attentive behind the wheel. It's also a good bit of fun being able to wind the car out at will, or drive it easy to try for crazy gas mileage.
Stalling is no issue after a few days - the only times I stall anymore are trying to drive up my driveway from hell (it's like 45 degrees!) or sometimes I'll just zone out and forget to take it out of gear as I'm coming to a stop. Unless you're driving it in very heavy traffic about all the time, I think MT is the only choice, but in the end it's really up to you. I'll just say it comes highly recommended.
As far as autocrossing, I'm not sure where you're located, but you could try to get to this year's Rev It Up. They provide the cars and instructors, plus it's only $25. Great place to start or just to learn.

I may have misread your post, but you did say you went for a test drive and that the car felt "smaller, wierd", and you didn't particularly like the view/field of vision in the car or the way it felt on the road? This was compared, to your Cobalt. Sounds to me like you might want to drive it or another a few more times before you consider having your Mom and Dad spend that kind of money on yet another car you aren't sure about. If aesthetics (looks) are all it's got going for it in your mind, well, you are going to see something else pretty and shiny soon.

When I was car shopping, I rejected the BMW Z4 because its ride was too smooth. Felt like a Cadillac. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it did not fit what I was looking for.

i got a 05 wwp AT when i was 16, insursance was $175 a month, 17 now.

If i waited a year i could have got an 8. And no i would not want a different car in a few years. I mean by that im not buying it to fly in but because i love it for its looks.
Im spoiled and to say that I want to work for something means i really want it. So after spending that amount of money it would even take me awhile to get a different one.
And of course i would drive it a few more times. All cars drive different and you have to get use to it. It was hard from driving a van to an suv to my car. But im fine that im use to it

If you're going to get one of these, you really need to take the ride as something you enjoy, not something you tolerate. I enjoy the stiff ride on mine, the way that I feel every bump in the road. It reminds me of how connected the car is to the road, how it's just waiting to pounce on a curve.

Yeah. Its not like the bumps are unbearable its just noticeable. Its not like my moms suv where it feels like your going to die. It dont shake you to death.
