Okay since my ninth grade year [[now a senior]] I've always wanted an rx8. Last year I got a '06 cobalt nothing fancy. No power door locks or anything like that which really sucks. And im thinking about getting a rx8 around my birthday in oct [[18 woo hoo]] but I've read things where so many people had so many problems. And then again theres many that had none. Ive never been in a wreck and never got a speeding ticket. I dont like driving too fast i have lost control before which was scary. Just wish I knew to counterturn. But no one was around luckely. But do ya'll think that it would be too much trouble for me? Cause I hear a lot of people complain about oil. Would it be hard for me to do? And about the engine flooding and cutting off. Does that happen often in the '07 models. Basicly do ya'll think it would be reliable for me?

You can afford an RX-8 but you can't afford a library card?

If you don't like going fast, then this isn't really the car for you. Also, at your age, you should be getting something with a bigger back seat. Trust me on that - it will pay off.

Hey, I'm 19 and in the final stages of acquiring an RX8. Never too young to own an RX8. But you can always be too stupid to own one.

What you should do is take a few rides with someone who has a lot of driving experience. Then ask him how was your driving. Was it dangerous? Were you nervous? A lot of times drivers can be too naive to know these things.

I think that with the 8, if you're not absolutely sure on every level, don't get it. It's a finicky car for finicky people. I love mine, but YMMV. Be sure before you commit.

well im hoping it will be $400 or less a month and I hopefully be making close to $800 a month. So i wouldnt have a problem with that and if I did my parent would help since im spoiled.

And wed. im going with my parents to test drive it. I personally think i drive better than my mom because she's always on everyone's butt and stops on them which scares me but yeah.

My car does not get up and go so i do want speed but its not like im gonna go crazy in it. But since ive been reading more about it the more i want it. And im willing to really work for it. Just dont want to regret it consider my car is reliable but not as nice as i want. :/

If checking your oil is too hard for you to do, then don't get it.

I dont think it would be. And it doesn't seem like you have to do it that often. I'd probably fill up once a week so im guessing checking every other week and some in between would be good. I wouldn't have a problem to remembering to do it though.

Don't forget that insurance for someone your age driving an RX-8 will be exhorbitant. Have you shopped for insurance yet? Will your parents pay for it, or help you pay for it if it comes out of your pocket?

well my mom would probably keep the car i have and trade in her suv and just say im still driving the other car mainly but i don't know yet. And i heard it was a group of 16-17 and her suv was grouped at 15 i believe so it shouldn't be much different than hers. And we have been with the same people [[nationwide i think]] for at least 15 years. So they dont want to change or anything. How much is it usually for it?

and plus right now i dont pay my car payment or insurance so if i started to pay for the car I don't think they will mind or if I also help with the insurance.

My daughter won't be 16 for a year, but my insurance said that it would run about $1,200/6 mos. for her to drive my 8. That's $200/mo.!

This was really just a thought exercise since I am the only one in the family who drives my 8, but the cost was shocking anyway.

I'm sure another company could beat that; but not by half. My own premium is only $600/yr. I haven't had an accident in almost 30 years.

Bad idea. Trade your Cobalt for a used Cavalier ... go retro! Or even better, trade it for a Chevy Chevette - REALLY retro!

well i dont want to trade the cobalt in. I hope my mom will keep it and trade hers in.

i think my insurance is around $130 a month so its not that bad of an increase i guess.

my dad really doesnt want me to get a new one since mine ive had only for a year and im about to go to college.

I honestly don't understand why would you buy a car in the first place, use it for a year, and already want something new...I don't really know what a cobalt is, but it's probably a good car. A car is kind of a permanent thing, when you make a decision you should be able to stand by it for a few years.

Next thing you know, a year from now you'll be looking for an evo or something. If you got money to burn though, I can't really make an argument.

its a chevollete and fairly new it replaced the cavilar i think. but no its what i got. the cheapest cause my parents would buy me. ive wanted this car for a long while. id rather have this than a bmw, lexus or any of that. i know i would have this car for a while.

well. it sucks to get in since i got a coupe. thats another reason why i love the rx8 with the 4 doors. but it could fit 3 people but an adult would not like riding in the middle with the hump in the seat and the cup holders in the middle. seats not really a problem though. if i got one a lot of people would not be in it

as far as payments and everything, just check your credit or whoever's buying it. i lucked out with my 8 and got it for 380 a month and 600 every 6 months (ins.). remember! work the price down to something you can afford BEFORE you tell them you have a down payment/trade in...haha.

bottom line though...going from a cobalt to an 8 you may wanna take some auto shop classes...i wouldn't say the 8 is really high maintenence...but you will have to do more than just wait for the Check Engine Light to pop up before you service it...

I'm 19 and have the 2007 model.. No difference.. I haven't had any problems.. I got mine late last October.. Oil hasn't been an issue either.. So it's really up to you..

yeah. well i can tell with something doesnt feel right or if i suspect anything. trust me ill bring anything up to make sure ill be fine and the car is ok. i would love to take one of the classes but would hate to be the only girl. oh yeah i hope to talk them down good. i heard a lot of people getting it at a pretty good price. but i know my parents will be like "oh yeah we have a trade in and blah blah"

I had a '77 Chevette as my driver back in high school. Perfect high school car if you're a parent buying it - tough as nails and slow as a snail.

Even better than a big back seat - it had a folding rear seat and a hatchback - my girlfriend in high school used to call it the "flip & ****" seat. Yes, I was a lucky guy.

My dad never figured out why I went to the effort to build a "dog bed" that was the size and shape of the cargo area with the seat down when I rarely took my dog out for rides with me ...
