im 20, and i pay 5 grand a year in insurance. thats $416/month.
you are lucky you are a girl.
it sounds like you dont really care about the performance aspects of the car. which is ok, most girls arent. my gf certainly isnt. what she does care about is the style. the car looks nice, inside and out. and it certainly looks better than a cobolt. especially if you buy a grand touring with the 2 tone interior leather.
if you can afford it, go for it. but honestly, why would you want to work through college? i tried working during 1 semester, i had to quit because i couldnt work and study at the same time. then again, im a guy with a one track mind. the gf works at the irs and doesnt seem to have a problem with school. but w/e, its just added strain right? i dont have to work, so i dont. i love this car, but unless you can pay the car off fully right now, i dont see the point in working to afford this car.
you will be working the entire time you are in college to pay for this car. are you ready for that kind of a commitment? college is about going out and having fun, not working to afford a nice car that you'll drive to class in. or worse, that will sit out in the parking lot because you live in the dorms.
unless you are going to die if you dont get the 8, get one after college.

i say screw it...if you can get the car, get the car.
You only live once!
That said...go easy if its your first RWD car. And get the manual transmission. I love seeing girls drive quick cars in manual. Up until we had our kid, my wife would always be haulin' in her 6spd TSX.

well, working i mean not like a regular job. this year im still in high school and will only go half a day so i can watch some kids. which will get hopfully $800 a month. and ill help my mom some. shes self employed and i could work whenever i had the time. so it shouldn't be too much stress. but i will also save all my extra money that doesnt go in the car so i will have it if i need it.

Hey bert
welcome to the cult buddy
I've been lurking through this club for many many years, and got my rx8 when I was 18 which was 2 and a half years ago.
Of course, lot of people were against me but HEY it's your car and you're choosing.
I was fortunate enough to have parents that paid for the car and paying for the insurance right now. I'm also currently in college fortunate enough to get by without working to make money, and enjoy my college life.
I agree with kersh4w. I can't work and study my school loads at the same time.
Although, I'm going to look for a job during summer break. Hey, what the heck
more time to study and more time to chill =]
like my dad told me
take advantage of your environments
so I'm with my rx8 for almost 3 years now
and still loving it like its new =]
I also claim to have the best rx8 ever made.
screw the curse of the silver
never had any problems with the car
no accidents
although, i got 2 tickets in Vegas, which was complete bullshit tickets
but anyways
it's up to you man
I'm going to bring the car to NY here for my convenience
(hard to get around in my school with no car)
I'm sure you pretty much set your mind on this car
so go for it =]
you'll love it
if you don't oh well
you learn from it and move on
I almost thought of trading it in for the new 07 Sti last May, but whoa... after test driving it, No Way
may the force be with you

thats not bad. if you dont mind me asking who do you have insurance with?
and by a lot of maintenance what do you mean by that?
i get my oil changed every 3,000 miles so it wouldnt be that hard to do it every 2,000 or 2,500 miles. and my dad would help me check it every weekend.
and i know about keeping the car running and on for atleast 10 mins and anyone that drives it ill make sure knows it.
what about the tires. how often do i need those.

the bukkake master!
i got my first 8 when i was 17 and traded it in and got a second 8. my first 8 was auto because of my parents and i traded it for manual which was a huge improvement. if you can, get manual its a lot more fun to drive. its not to bad to change the oil on the car. on my first 8 i could go from oil change to oil change without have to add any. so you might get an 8 that doesnt eat to much oil. good luck

im 17 with an 07 from graduation. I love the car serisouly before I had this car i didnt know **** about working on a car but since ive been on this site 24/7 and ive been checking my oil every other fuel up, taking crap apart, and adding new things to the car.
and dont worry about not getting any action in the 8 ... the front seats fold down more then any car ive ever been in. (at least in the ones with manual seat recliners) just keep you seats clean after if you know what im saying.
