2010 Sport. Bought it 2/4/10 & have 1200 miles on it already. No problems only fun (ZOOM ZOOM). Several road trips into the mountains to test the handling & acceleration. always come back with a big grin

No flooding, but I do make sure it gets up to temp every time it goes out. 1st oil change coming up next weekend. Checked the oil at 1000 and was showing right in the middle between max & min level.

Bought new with 30 miles on it, October 2009, pearl white 2009. 1200 miles on it now, all city driving, steady 16 mpg, with occasional 18's if I throw in some beltway miles. Sleeping for the winter on battery tender. Will hopefully be spring within a few weeks.

2009 Crystal White Pearl Grand Touring, Moonroofless

12,000 miles, two oil changes

Uses a LOT more oil than my 2005 did. More than any of my RX-7s consumed too.

18.1 mpg lifetime

Got mine oalmost two weeks ago and I have only driven it for the first 5 days, it has been at the shop for the past 8. In those five days I was driving the crap out of it and I was getting an average of 18.7 mpg. I have only had to add about .5 qt of oil and I used Mobil 1 Synth 5w-30.

I hear alot of dissent about using synthetic oil on the forums.... but I don't know what the deal is about that... why shouldn't you use synthetics?

The basic answer is that Mazda did not test all the synthetics so it does not endorse the use of them (in the USA anyway) but there is no definitive proof that there are any downsides to using them.

That being said, I ran Castrol 10W-30 in my second motor that lasted 75,000 miles in Texas heat on and off the track. So with an 09' one can assume you would be fine running a good Dino oil. Not all oils are created equally so you just have to use what you like and test it to see how it is doing in your motor.

Thanks 9krpm, I appreciate it. I think that thefirst oil change will happen this weekend, assuming I get the car back, and I will try conventional oil to see if I feel a difference.

You won't feel a difference but make sure you keep all your oil receipts just in case the Series II develops any engine issues. But you should get a UOA just to see how your last batch of oil is doing.

about 1000 miles now, just got it a month ago. gone through almost a quart of dino oil, been just around town driving, being nice during break in and all of that. last fill up was 13.5 mpg (traffic here moves slowly and sluggishly) but has been improving slowly.

2009 R3, bought new Jan. 2010
7300 miles, I drive usually over 100mile a day.
1 oil change, due one now
avg. 18mpg, best 20mpg
if this car got 25-30mpg I think it would be the perfect car
but, life ain't perfect

I think my '04 would usually get 20-22mpg

18,500 or so. No issues. Just pure fun. Getting 22 mpg on long trips, 19 city.
I check the oil every other tank of gas. about 1/4 quart needed if I'm driving hard.
No flooding trouble. sometimes 3rd gear has a little tick on the up shift.
Hate the key-less operation.

Cool. So far, so good. I wonder if there have been any failures at all?

2009 R3
Purchased Oct 2009 with 32 miles
Now 8,500 miles
Two oil changes
About 1 quart of oil added every 1,500 to 2,000 miles
1 track day at 7,500 miles completely stock
15 mpg daily driving
21 mpg observed highway
No issues (other than coolant cavitation sound at high rpms that my dealer shrugged off)
I love it. Makes my s2000 feel slow in the midrange thanks to the 4.77 rear end. But then the s2000 takes over up top. Makes me realize how little feel there is on-center in my s2000.

Nice, the gearing makes a difference off the line for sure also.
