Sell the 8 ???

When I picked up my Speed6 as a winter vehicle, the torque was pretty fun. It's overclocked using AP. Stock Speed6s run the quarter in about 13.8.
For a month or two, the RX-8 took a back seat. In fact, I let it sit until the battery lost its charge and wouldn't start.
However, the Speed6's torque got boring pretty fast. You get used to torque very quickly. I've come to the conclusion that you can never have enough power.
Then I decided to revive the RX-8 and take it for a spin because I got a little bored with the AWD car. The moment was like a second epiphany for me. I was shaken awake to why I bought the RX-8 in the first place. The connectedness, the response, the agility... I was grinning from ear to ear. In my eyes, the RX-8 instantly and forever established superiority.

I'm going to agree with YaXMan.
If you're looking for torque, you need to go beyond 350Z, the previous Mustang GT, and the like.
Otherwise, you'll likely regret.

How do you people turn so many heads in these things? I have not once had a random person say anything about my 8 nor have I ever noticed it turning heads
Take the car to track, and you'll find out why you have it. I've also tracked my 6sp auto and like someone said above, you'll take the faster cars all day long except in the straights where you'll get pummeled by just about everything

Got harassed by few 3 series and Mustang Cobra before (on highway and heavy traffic), but i ignored them, cuz' street race is just simply retarded. Take to the track and see what you can do with your ride.
Beside that, it's all good.
Funny thing is, one time there was a Lexus iS rolled up to me and asked "What v is this?"
I kept silenced for a bit....clearly he doen't have much knowledge about car...and just told him it's a 1.3L engine.

Strength/Confidence
I've owned the fast off the line cars, trans am ws6, ctsv, and I do really miss them both, but I would miss the nimbleness and light weight of the rx8 if I were to sell it even though I am currently thinking bout selling it and have a feeler thread up in the for sale section. So there's trade-offs both ways and you just have to decide what's more important.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do op.

Well, unlike many on here, I DID get rid of my 8.
However, I replaced it with speed3 for my daily and an S2000 for my fun.
I bought the rx8 for its sports car looks and and day to day practicality. My life then progressed a bit and I was able to have a dedicated fun/autocross car.
So, the S2000 is pure fun and very low on the practicality. And the Speed3 is fun, but its very practical.
SO, on that note... if your life can make room for a 100% dedicated fun car. I would consider dumping the 8 for a pure sports car.
However... per your torque argument. Torque can be fun, but are you ready to give up your redline? Most torque monsters have low redlines. Sport bikes, rotaries, or little honda vtec engines, I love when an engine screams as 8500+... my speed3 doesn't do that despite being more powerful than the S2000. And I don't love it as much because of it.

Why so jealous? 350Z's are highly overrated. At least the RX-8 is track-ready straight from the factory. The same can't be said for Nissans. The 370Z is a little better but not much.
And if Nissan build's the 370Z like they build their other cars I would deffinitely pass. I had a brand new Altima for a rental car the other week, freshly delivered, 10 miles on the odometer. It had a decent engine, fairly nice interior, and decent handling compared to other mid-size rentals I've had. Too bad the build quality was HORRIBLE. Seriously half the crap on it didn't work right, and it was a BRAND new car. Every time I started it, the hazzard lights would stay on until the first time I used the turn signals. The AC would default back to foot-well only all the time. It didnt work with automatic pump shutoff at gas stations. I found a random screw sitting on my seat once. What a piece of junk, just confirmed everything I always suspected about Nissans.
Oh yeah for those that complain about RX-8 oil consumption, here's a nice pic I took the other day. I know you can't read it but this guy had put signs (on both sides of the car) telling how Nissan had screwed him over.
"This $40K Nissan BURNS a Quart of Oil / 640 miles. Nissan NA says TOUGH LUCK. Pinnacle Nissan says its MY PROBLEM now. THINK before you buy Nissan."

interesting posts. As one of you said, youll get used to the power very easily and i guess this is whats happening with my 8 and would happen if i were to get a car with more torque. Yea it is true that most torque monsters have low redlines. I do like the 9000 rpm redline
I am pretty sure ill keep the 8 and later down the road pick up a car with more torque.
Seems like a lot of you regret selling the 8 for someting else.
Thanks for your inputs guys

Are you really racing that much on the streets? From your original post it sounds like your frustration is about not doing "well" racing against every joe and his brother at every traffic light.

Listen dude, if you don't appreciate your 8 anymore get rid of it....
The 8 is an absolutely beautiful and one of a kind ride. If you don't see that anymore then I don't see the point in you keeping it.
The 8 was not made to go fast in a straight line off of a traffic street light....it is much MUCH more classier than that
You should know this by now.

Besides, nothing sounds like an 8.

So I am new here to the rx8 but bought the car because I had an rx7. It was an na 86 and it was a not the fastest but yet it was a legend in our tuner crowd years ago. The passion and maturity that goes with owning these cars supersedes all the hp and torque in the world to me. The rx8 was and still is my dream car for reasons way beyond pyshics. I will be the guy smiling like crazy when you pull away in whatever generic ride knowing what I know which I don't have to explain. That's just how I feel about it. No offense or worries

I've bought and sold two RX8's. Just simply missed the joy of driving once they were gone. So now I just a third one. This one I won't be selling. I test drove everything under 50k in town and couldn't find any car as fun to drive.
BMW 135i test drive was the best. The salesman was so proud of the near 50:50 weight distribution so during my test drive he tells me take a corner at 50 mph and I do and the car makes an ok turn out of it but after I take him in my then R3 at the time and hit it at 60 and just tear through this corner the salesmen was like wtf is this awd?
One of my favorite test drives.

The rx8 is so precision ballanced it is only as good as you are. Muscle cars are no challenge. They just go fast straight. Do you like the curves and hills best on a roller coaster ride, or the straights? The 8 is for the curves and hills. If you lived in Illinois (flat landers) You should probably drive a muscle car. The 8 is a real sportscar, power is adequete for constant fun and spirited driving.

Like others said if you was stepping away from the RX-8 , i would go Corvette ,Porsche 996, Cayman,Lotus Elise, the Mustang, 350Z/370Z, etc are all going to be exciting because of the torque but the fun factor will not be as high as the RX-8.
If you want to have insane take offs when you racing your buddy or feel like you need to "keep up " with the other guys at the lights. Turn off your TCS,rev to 8k and wait for the light to turn green, I bet you will make your fellow friends/opponents green with envy as you shoot offf the line like a rocket!

PSA: Wankels by design use gas pressure for seal efficiency. Therefore, I read that racing the engine to a high RPM without loading can degrade the motor.
So try not to free rev or do a high RPM launch. It's just not for the RX-8.

If there's one thing owning the 8 has taught me, it's pick one side or the other. Either sportcar or something more economic or utility based. I love how the RX8 drives, but it's simply not fast enough to be something special. It gets terrible gas mileage. And it sucks that I'm constantly worried about scratching the interior by carrying something that maybe the 8 shouldn't carry. Nothing crazy, but sometimes situations present themselves, and the 8 cannot take advantage of them.
That may sound dumb. But basically what I've decided is to own a POS v6 regular cab pickup and then a nice sportcar that sits in the garage for weekend use. Call me a douche bag, but I'd like to maybe get a 370Z with a few bolt-ons. Get it close to the 400hp mark. Still handles well, and much faster than the 8.
After driving the 8, I don't think I could EVER own a Mustang, GTO, Camaro, Trans Am or similar. They handle like a boat and have a ton of body roll. I used to own one. So please, let's not argue.
A vette or Elise might be nice, but are starting to get pretty pricey. You'll be $55k in before you know it. The Elise is DAMN sexy though.

I remembered where I saw it.
It's in the last part of the section on design: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wankel_engine
* NOTE: Not sure how reliable this info is, but I figure someone more knowledgeable would have corrected any false info by now.
I recall reading it elsewhere too, but I can't remember.
