I added the CP-E CAI and HKS BOV. I have some Tein-S springs on it right now but going to swap them out later for a coilover kit. Next mod on the list is a Exhaust system. Probably the one from CP-E.

It's funny, everyone always takes the best RX-8 0-60 time with a clutch burning 6000 rpm dump and 5.9(Car and Driver) run and compare it to some of the worst times other car's run. If I remember Edmunds ran the RX-8 to 60 in 6.6 seconds(yes Edmunds must have crappy drivers, and never launch their cars), but you never hear anyone screaming out that time. So here's another Car and Driver run for the Mazdaspeed 6 0-60 in 5.4 and quarter mile in 14 flat

I actually bought into the MS6 hype and went to the local dealer with my boss to look at buying one (we were both interested).

But I came to my senses. Compared to the RX-8, it's like riding in a Jeep. It sits up high...

It's a nice car, but it's a sporty sedan, not a sports car. It might get better 0-60 times in stock form, but that's easily resolved

I like both cars but I like having a sleeper and need the extra room. But hopefully Mazda comes out with Kabura concept. I will be all over that.

The MS6 is quicker but..

I took the MS6 out for a test run, and can definitely say it has better acceleration then the 8.
The MS6 does not compare to the 8 in handling. The torque steer wasn't too bad in the MS6 but you could still feel it. It is a heavy car and does sit higher than I like.
The MS6 needs to enter a corner at lower speed, then accelerate hard out of it, while the 8 enters a turn at a higher rate of speed and can maintain it through the whole curve. It is much more fun to enter corners fast and maintain it. Point and shoot is really fun on bikes, but kinda lame in cars.
If we sell our SUV, the MS6 may be a decent replacement, but I'd never consider the MS6 over the RX8.

Cheers,

Alex

Besides C&D....Motor Trend and Road & Track, all North American mags, tested the 8 at 5.9 or 6 flat and 14.4 or 14.5 quarters. Are they less credible than Edmunds?

And if I hear anyone else say "you gotta drop it at high revs to get it to run",,,,HOW DA HELL DO THEY DO IT WIT OTHER CARS????? DO THEY JUST FLOOR IT JUST OFF IDLE??

SHAAADUP!!!!!!!!!

Most other cars hit max torque where the rx-8 is just getting started. So launching a car at 2,000 rpm is just fine in a jeep or mustang, in a RX-8, you're going to be putting down around 80 hp at that rpm range. So it's not shocking that you need a higher rpm (5500+) to get a good time.

Doesn't matter, the RX-8 isn't even in the top 1000 list of cars to get if you want 0-60 times. If that's what you are aiming for, then you overpaid and should have gotten the new neon.

...had to go there eh?

All I said was with any car, the best launch is at peak torque, depending of course on traction limitations.

6500rpm sounds high, but not in a 9000rpm car. So why go on about it?

I used to own a 14000rpm 600cc sportbike that had its peak torque over 10000rpm. This is actually a fun trait, a test of rider or driver, not a negative, makes for a far more involved driving experience. If I wanted Hemi off idle power, I would have bought one.

...not trying to be a smartass dos, I just am.

So why is MS6 one of the worst AWDs on the market?
I read some posts about boost cut and a post about a single LSD. Any other issues?

Wow, some 8 owners really don't like the idea of other cars being faster in a straight line. It's kind of embarrassing to see actually. I don't even see what the big deal is. The 8 is better in cornering, feedback, and braking and yet people can't accept the fact that the MS6 just MIGHT be faster in a straight line even though there's plenty of evidence that it is. Sigh.

Don't feel to bad. Lots of different car brand owners do the same thing. I remember being on the honda forums and hearing the same crap.
