RX8 Problem - Loss of Power Recall???

Just got a 2008 GT has 1600 miles on it. Signed up for my mazda and it says there are no recalls on a 2008.

Well a week or 2 ago, I started experiencing a drop in power coming out of 2nd in my car. Automatic Transmission. Seems like it wouldn't do this all the time, but when I first ran the car first time of the day, I could roll up and stop in 1st then it would drop power in 2nd and seemed like it was almost going to stall. Well I took it to the dealership under warranty, and they mentioned something about this "loss of power" recall, and did some programming change to supposedly fix the issue. I really hope these guys know what the hell they're doing and didn't make some programming change that did not need to be done on my 2008. I haven't experienced the problem yet again this afternoon, and will keep an eye on the car. Will try to post more details later. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with their 2008 RX8's or know anything about this "recall" or issue.

Thanks

They probably just updated to the latest flash MSP-16 'lack of power PCM flash'. Technically MSP16 isnt a "recall" so thats why it may not have showed up.

You can read details here: http://www.finishlineperformance.com...13-08-1925.pdf

I took my 2007 which I bought in december in for service this weekend and they applied the flash as well as all the regular maintenance stuff.

BTW - nice brilliant black! I love it but it literally drives me bonkers trying to keep the damn thing looking clean

Thanks, and yes that would be the update they did. It is a bit more high temp here in Arkansas so perhaps this was the problem. Hopefully it fixed my issue..Will keep an eye out the next few days...Yea black can be a pain, but gotta love it.

too big of a sig.

now, check to make sure ur sparkplugs are good, the dealer may very well not had changed the spark plugs like they were suppose to when they hand you the vehicle.

check ur glove compartment, if there are 2 spark plugs, they need to be put into the car.

I had this problem as well. Since the reflash the car runs much smoother when pushed hard. Worth the 30 mins!

Sorry bout the sig, I'll have to fix that....HRM, the spark plug thing..yea there are 2 spare plugs in the glove box, I was wondering wtf those were doing there...and I know they didn't change them, obviously because 2 brand new ones are in there. Could be part of the issue as well...thanks guys

Run into the service desk and yell out "FQI! FQI!" as you slam them down onto the desk.

Then, casually walk out as you tell them you'll be in the lobby until they are through.

So..I go into the dealership..and basically yelled FQ FQ FQ...they wanted me to wait all f'n day to put in some plugs...so I dropped the car off..she wanted to argue with me that that wasnt my problem and blah blah of course not knowing what she's talking about, and even know i took the car in yesterday to be diagnosed they must not of done a very good job diagnosing, thinking it was because of the "loss of power" pcm upgrade they did that, but the car still is running crappy so they must not even of drove it..Now im not huge or technical when it comes to the rx8 yet, and don't have the tools at home to throw the plugs in...so lets see if they get it right this time...

She told me that the plugs are fine unless car is on the lot for a year..blah blah...Do any of you know the reasoning for the changing of the plugs? Or why they would have to be changed on a brand new vehicle?

I think is the a reflash only. I had mine reflashed today under the recall.. My baby is running smother and doesn't hang onto the gears for so long after the reflash.

Your vehicle must fall under the vin number for the recall etc...

They replaced the plugs, what do you know, it runs smooth now. The reflash definitely helped also. I'm really fearing having to take the car to these people if anything goes wrong with the car. Hopefully she's smooth sailing from here.

The reasoning on changing the plugs (and it is REQUIRED by Mazda) is that the car may not've been treated properly during its stay on the lot. Therefore Mazda tells the dealerships that as part of the Final Quality Inspection they must change out the two spark plugs in the (near?) rotor.

Mazda sends them a check for this. Why wouldn't they do it?

Anyway, that is how it was explained to me. Mine purrs like a little kitten.. and howls like a hungry lion!

Hi, on this loss of power issue, I experience a mild loss at 3rd gear (at about 40kph). I drive a 6AT.

I think its just the gears downshifting, but can someone pls put my worries at ease?
