The 8 is fast enough to hang with hardcore motorcyclists on The Tail of the Dragon, and that is damn fast enough for me............

Till I can afford another DD, rebuild and BOOST! Untill then.

The 8 is respectably fast for its price class, it just isn't very quick until you hit about 45 MPH. It doesn't deserve its exaggerated reputation for slowness, but it does lack grunt. No getting around that.
It has four doors, seats four adults, and the only cars anywhere near its price class that can out-handle it are roadsters. It has an engine that loves to be spanked all the way to 9k, and you can redline it at full-throttle all day long and it will just love you for it. It is about the sexiest-looking car you can get without stepping up to a Porsche, and despite the guys who diss it based on magazine numbers women are *always* impressed by it.
Learn to love it for what it is.

There are cars who are faster from 0 to 60, 100, 120, but above 125 the Rx-8 outclass much more powerful cars du to his aerodynamic form and his high reving engine. With my 2006 Rx-8, japanese specs, Injen Short Ram Intake, ACT clutch and light flywheel, Tanabe complete exhaust, 245/35 Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres(211 hp on the dyno, 270 at the flywheel) i'm doing the quarter mile in 13,8-14,3 sec, 1km in 25 sec and reach a top speed of 172mph beating the likes of BMW 330, Honda Cicic Type R Mugen, Golf R(270HP) and many others.

^^Agree time slip please, if you can get a 13.8, i'll send it to Takuya Kurosawa and tell him not to never appear in BMI anymore for the 15.324 that he did.

I don't think that is saying much. Cars generally turn better than bikes and on the dragon that turns into a HUGE advantage. I think rx8s would beat the majority of high powered bikes in autocross as well.

Yeah thats what he (GT driver lol) did, pretty sad eh but he was always a non-agressive driver. Pretty sure if his father drove it (helped refine S2000, NSX, STI), the RX-8 would have received better refinement from Mazda, the only thing he got Mazda to update on the Rx-8 was the gear ratio.

Our cars direct competitors at the RX8's release was the Audi TT, S2000, 350Z. The RX8 hung with those cars on paper, still slower after 60 yes, but never-the-less it was worth it due to the neutral balance of the vehicle.
Our problem is while other cars got faster, ours didn't. So now we're significantly out powered and in a lot of cases, out performed. I will agree with that yes.
Absolutely not, opinions are always valid and it's your car. I'm just saying that for a 1.3L engine, 190whp and high 14 second passes are acceptable IMO. I WANT my car to be faster, and Im embarressed whenever I cruise with my brother who owns a Challenger R/T and a 383 swapped Vette. However, I know what the RX8 is meant for and it still performs extremely well for a car of it's price point and engine displacement.
Low expectations? seriously? I dont have low expectations bro. My expectations were to have a gorgeous car that gives the feeling of a go-cart. The RX8 did more than that to the point that Im waiting to pay it off so I can keep this AND buy another "fast" car.
If it was a corvette that performed like this, then yes I wouldve been dissappointed. Its an rx8 with 238 horsepower, what did you expect?
The overall point is quit

from your post its clear that you know this cars potential and limitation. the reason you love your car is very valid and you are not misinformed. you are not likely to get pissed off at the rx8 and bash it because you thought it was something its not.
now compare you the the OP. he loves the rx8... this is good. but he loves it partially because he thinks its fast...this is bad. right now he actually thinks that when he buys the rx8 and drives around every day that he can out accelerate or keep up with 330i, boxters, mustangs. what do you think is gonna happen when he finds out that he cant and that he needs to change his clutch and tranny from doing a bunch of 7500 rpm clutch dumps trying to make his delusions a reality? more then likely, hes gonna try to sell it and talk a lot of **** about it futher giving it a bad rep simply because he made a misinformed purchase and his definition of "damn fast" was... well.. off.
to the OP (original poster). the rx8 is only slightly faster then many cars being sold today. it is a balanced car with great feel which is also subjective. because the car is so balanced it inspires confidence in many who drive it. its steering and braking has often been described as "organic". it drinks oil, has poor gas mileage (again, compared to todays cars being sold) and many people blow their engines fairly earlier then most other cars on the road. parts for this car are not cheap. it is expensive to upgrade and there is not a lot of aftermarket support when compared to nissans/mitsu/porsche/subby. they motor does not yield a lot of hp when upgrading. engines from teh factory are also not created equal. this is true for all cars but the swing is a bit more with the 8. some cars bone stick are 200+ whp. most are in the 170-180s. im not tying to bash the car and im not trying to bash you. im simply trying help you make an informed decision.
