Yes a ticket for 5 over is BS, but your comprehension of the situation is obviously skewed.
Just trying to help. I do not want anyone on this board to say wrong information and get called out on it.

Sorry bout that...I actually left out a few words. I meant that he could not have clocked me down the side or at the rear and gotten a correct reading. The only correct reading that he would have gotten would have to be from the front (which he wasn't). By my recent experience, I would have to disagree with you about getting a correct reading heading away from the source. Thanks for the correction though...I had the right idea, just wrong grammar. I will go back and fix it the way I meant it.

I rode with my brother (another Texas cop) a couple of weeks after I got the ticket. I asked him TONS of questions about his radar gun (I am assuming this is what type it was) and basically this is what was proven with multiple cars. Clocked from front (50-55mph) same cars clocked from side (75-95mph), same cars clocked from back (35-105mph). Range got bigger the more cars we clocked.

Clocking from the back while driving behind a car was even more innacurate. We were driving 60 and we clocked other cars in front of us at anywhere from 15 to 120mph.

They are always mounted to the front and/or rear of the vehicle and they look like square boxes with a dome on the business end of it. If he's aiming it a device at you like it's a gun, then it's a laser and not radar.

Yeah pop is the same as instant on.
Not sure what my brother rides with. It has a mount on the dashboard, but he can also pull it out and point it any direction that he pleases. I am guessing radar as you can see by my previous post what numbers we got from the side and rear of the cars. As far as I know, most police depts don't run laser around here, but I am not sure.

I've had my 8 for almost a year and haven't had a ticket yet, however one night I was driving through a 25 and a cop was on my butt, as soon as I started to go above 30 you could tell he was going RIGHT AT 30 because he started falling back. He obviously wanted to pick me up since no one drives 30 in a 25 (not even the cops I've seen), but I luckily kept it under control. Stupid cops that do that.

sounds good. Way to be pro-active and learn about something you felt the need to know and will help you out, but remember the radar needs to be recalibrated everyday. Great Job!

Asked about that too. Apparently there is a button that is actually on the radar that immediately recalibrates it. Not sure if that meets the requirements of the law, but it can be recalibrated after every traffic stop if needed.

Actualy as it turns out the best way to recalibrate the gun is with a tuning fork.
