i have redline in both for about a month now and it is great IMO... I was going to go with RP but the shop owner recommended against it, something to do with messign up the synchros...

he just recommended against it as the few weeks prior to me bringing in my 8 for the transmission oil change, he had 2 8s in that got transmission replaced that was running RP for a long time... he was just putting two and two together.. he did not guarantee soemthing bad would happen, just that there might be an increased change... go for whatever you feel is better, but why take any risk if RP is just a little better...

^^ i can believe that, i'm draining my RP next week, i've been gettin high rpm grinds with 4th gear with it. Replacing it with redline shockproof heavy, we'll see but man i really don't wanna go through the trouble of a new tranny.

I'll shed some light on this... It was I who talked to Yoshia at Neptune speed about the issues I'd had with RP and my transmissoin.
In that day was another forum member who had switched from RL to RP and that very day he began experiencing grinding at high RPM's.
His car had the RP drained out and filled with oem fluids, I had my differential drained of RP and put Redilne in. (since I knew I'd be putting Redling in after I logged a couple hundred miles)
Disclaimer: I am NOT saying that Royal Purple is a bad fluid...simply stating that I had issues with it as did a fellow forum member who I know. For some reason, at high temps, and high revs, the RP was somehow causing grinding. Yoshia commented that he's normally a fan of Royal Purple but that our two cars were not the only 8's he'd seen experiencing some issues with RP. (for those who don't know who NeptuneSpeed is...it's THE Rotary shop in SoCal)
Mazda replaced my entire transmission...

^^ Jedi, was thinking about dropping your name in my post, but didnt want to just bring you into it... That is what yoshia told me as well, the gringing in high temps and RPMs...
And yoshia does know a thing or two about rotaries...

very true mysql, but here in SoCal those aren't the only samples.
I'd still recommend RP to those who want to use it (it has a GREAT reputation) but if they ask me, I'll tell them about my experience and let each person make their own decision.
Same as I did with daniel when I saw he was going to use RP.
