Last week i was putting some oil in. I was telling my friends uncle, who is a stubborn idiot to begin with, what i was doing. I figured... what the hell. Lets see where this goes.

I said i was adding oil because it was low. I told him that i do this between every oil change. He says that my car has a problem and i need to get it checked out. I said no its doesnt have a problem. It burns some oil by design.

He insisted the car's engine had an issue and i told him again... Its fine. It is SUPPOSED to do this. I said, "Its a rotary engine. No pistons. Its not like your Civic."

He said he doesnt care what engine it is. An engine is not supposed to consume oil like that. I asked him if he even knew anything about a rotary engine. He said he doesnt know what it is.

I gave up.

People are idiots. They really are.

No one has offered to fix anything for me yet, lol. But, random guys at gas stations/AutoZone, etc like to try to make conversation and show off their car knowledge and ask "intelligent" questions... i.e:

"Damn, a big ol' V6 in that little car, I bet it's quick...I hear they're coming out with a V8 in 2013 that can beat any Mustang GT" (ACTUAL statement from redneck in stupid jacked up truck with Rockstars circa 5 years ago). Another favorite is when buying thick synthetic oil, the salespeople (aka glorified cashiers at times) tell me that it's going to "gunk up" my engine unless I put in an additive... and stare at me shocked when I tell them I put oil in about every 3rd fill up! I must have an oil leak! OMG!

The sad thing is that when I bought the 8 from Carmax, the salesperson told me it was a V6 and when I argued with him because I (shocker!) researched before I bought, he talked to me like I was an idiot. I ended up ditching him and working with a guy who had been a service tech at Roger Beasley Mazda for years instead, and he was so knowledgeable and actually directed me here. Wish I remembered his name so I could thank him!

My favorite rotary engine story was back in the early 90's when my wife and I were looking for a first generation RX-7, we went to a used car lot and said we were looking for a sporty car...

First, the used car salesman points to a late 80's buick Century and says, "that one is pretty sporty."

We ask about the RX-7 he had and he said is wasn't very sporty because it only had a 4 cylinder engine...

I said, "4 cylinders? Are you sure?"

he said yes and opened the hood and said, "look, four spark plugs."

We walked away...

I am too tired to go into the conversation at orileys while purchasing coil packs and plugs today.... apparently most cars do not take 2 of one plug and 2 of another.... he tried to sell me 4 leading plugs, then 4 trailing plugs.... ugh....
