a question coming from a noob

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a 2007 "new" Rx8 (manual, GT) that's been sitting on the lot since June 2007. I went to look at it today. I turned it on and I lightly pressed on the gas in neutral... and it sounded like a really nasty sounding gargle.

I am familiar with how the Rx8 is supposed to sound cold/warm/whatever, and that an Rx8 should be warmed up. But this sounded really unusual.

Can anyone can share what this might be?

other notes:
- The salesman drove this car with me in it a week ago and he revved to 7000 several times. During the entire drive I didn't hear a problem. But I think he may have turned up the radio and air conditioning so I wouldn't notice ::shrug::
- Today there was a lot of brake dust on all four wheels and rotors. It was bad... Wasn't there last week. Could be signs of abuse during the week and signs are now showing???? maybe?

Did you have the clutch out when you stepped on the gas in neutral? That can be bad for it if you don't, but your sound could be coming from the transmission. Gargling though, hmm...

haha yea, I had the clutch out. But I'm sure that wasn't it.

it sounded like the death of a car... but I've never heard the death of a car before, but that's what I thought of when I heard this crazy noise.

I guess all I can do is wait until Monday to give it a more thorough inspection.

Well don't buy it without at a look over from Mazda and consider dropping the tranny fluid and doin a compression test if you are really concerned.

Good luck, post some pics if you get it.

gargling. Go back and let it run for 10 minutes, then rev the engine again and I bet itd be gone. My car makes all kinds of gargles and pops and **** when its cold, it did that before the midpipe.
