Question Q about stock Clutch

Hi
As you know, I recently got my car and still trying to drive stick well with my rx8
so when im at 1st gear starting the car, i still apply clutch a little while putting the gas. for me as a beginner, it still takes a little while to move the car( 3secods to start the car from stop) Even when i back my car up, i back up still pressing alittle on the clutch.
I'm wondering how fast you guys start from complete start?
how long did it take you guys to learn to do that?
And my biggest concern is, how long will the stock clutch normally hold?
in my situation, i know it will be out little faster than many people who knows how to drive stick, but can't be that different as some of you may fast start the car or do some fun stunts with clutch that i can't imagine but only see on TV or magazines(someday i wish i could too like burning tires, spinning the car, and such)

thank you

I think you need to master the basics before you start thinking about burning tires and such, although depending on how your letting out your clutch you might be doing that already. You need to find that mid-point in the clutch travel as you are applying gas when the car starts to move. That's when you know you can let the clutch go (slowly). Once you are good at this, it will appear seamless to you and you won't be thinking about it in terms of time or how fast you are starting. Just don't forget to give it some gas as you do this.

I recently got my 8 (gosh I have said that like 4 times so far today...LOL) and I have experiance driving stick with my two past cars, the only other cars I've owned other than the 8. (keep in mind both cars were over 100,000 miles)

I'm still trying to get use to the 8's stick but I love it's position and short shifter. The things I notice right now is it is a little reluctant to let go of a gear once it's in (might be normal but I've never owned a new stick car). It takes a little more effort to get into 6th gear (I have never owned a 6spd before) and as always...1st gear is a little touchy, but a little more so right now.

I don't really blame the car and more blame my lack of experiance with a "new stick" tranny/clutch but hang in there and treat it nice. With time...you will get the hang of it too. I'm getting better with every drive...and my face is hurting from the HUGE smile on my face.

You don't just rev it to 6k and drop the clutch?

Sorry, I couldn't resist the chance to be a smart @$$. :D Just keep at it and you will become a natural. Driving a stick is like riding a bike, only with different pedals.

For shifting from 5th to 6th apply a little pressure on the stick towards the passenger side of the car as you pull it back. It will go right in to 6th if you do that. That was one thing I had to discover myself.
