my checking procedure is:

warm engine
stop
wait 5 minutes
take out the dipstick
clean it
put the dipstick
take out the dipstick
read it...

my average consumption is 1Litre each 4.000kms, and here I see an incredible low consumptions.... maybe we use different oil...

Good method!

1L per 4000km is about right. Me is 200mL per 1000km (even less than you) but I do 90% highway

Hey WTF, my 8 need a quart at 1000 miles and now at 2000.
Just normal driving (mainly highway) and not racing or revving.
Seems really high, my old rx-7 only used 1 qt / 3000 but back them we used
10-30 in the summer and 10w-30 in the winter.

This 8 came with (5w-30?) maybe, because the dealer gave me 2 extra qts
and they were 10w-30.

The old 7's had no oil cooler.
So maybe the 8's burning a qt in 1000 miles is because of the 5w or 10w
Weight.
Maybe the engine requires oil coolers to stop the oil from 'cracking' into
gasoline/propane because the engine is running too damn hot.
Seems wrong, when I read the whole reason they could increase the HP was
Because they could computer control the oil consumption and stop port clogging.
They said it was 1 qt per 10,000 miles.

I've done 1,200 miles and I just checked oil level. Oil level as at full when I got it, and I lost about 23-25%, so I think 2000 miles would be a good time to add.

1 qt at 2500 would be far from great and maybe acceptable for a old RX-7 , but 1 qt per 1000 miles is not acceptable at any time
And according to this article I would expect 1 qt usage per 6000 miles so what gives!

Reduced Oil Consumption

In a rotary engine, oil is supplied directly to the interior walls of the combustion chamber to lubricate the "apex" and "corner" seals. Engineers kept the paths which supply oil in the RENESIS as small as possible, and we have redesigned the oil supply nozzles to improve their efficiency. With these enhancements, the RENESIS consumes about half as much oil as a conventional rotary engine.

I have the oil changed every 3,000 to 3,500 miles. I generally add half a quart (1.89 liters) about half-way between oil-changes. Once I let it slide and the oil-light came on. It was exactly 1 quart low. I'm not willing to depend upon that oil-light but it was encouraging that it came on so soon.

Why would your dealer give you the wrong oil for the RX-8?
Why would you accept it if they did?

My consumption has been similar to others who've posted. Down about a quart (1/3 above fill line) @ 1,500. Had the free change done then and he put it right at the full line. Perfect. I'm at 2,500 now and it's halfway between the lines. Looks like 1 qt/1,500 so far.

I have 15k miles on mine and change the oil every 5k. I add a quart between changes. Not bad. This seems to be pretty much in line with most of the other repsondents. I think Mazda goes a little overboard about checking the oil after every other fillup, like I was told. I check it about once a month.

I took a trip to Fla. this summer and after 2200 miles I added 1 Qt. That is the only time I have added oil and I now have 5200 miles. The 8 did like to go 88 mph on the trip. :D

The issue stays the same, 1000 mile or 2500 miles and a quart low , is just not right, based on this article and the fact the rx-7 went 3000 miles before being a quart low no matter how hard it was pushed.
Seems no one (rx-8) is getting as good as the old rotary engine did!!
