I do not have hesitation, but I do get a cyclic rough idle (dropping then jumps back up after rough idle, never stalled due to it)...after reading all this I'm not 100% sure, is this one of the problems it is supposed to fix? I do have the power train warranty left so I my as well take it in anyway.

Also, I have just recently changed oil, tranny oil, diff oil, and plugs. So can I take it in just for this or are they going to make me have it done in addition to other services, so they can charge me?

I got the new flash today with an oil change. No questions asked. Took about an hour. The car runs good. Starts real easy. Seems more responsive to the gas pedal.

U still at M ? wow ... if u're still in warranty go update it or something

even when u're out of Warranty, pay 1 hour of labor and update it. The flash fixed a lot of problems.

I bought my RX8 used and also got the extended warranty. Am I still covered?

Sounds likes a stupid question, but I just want to be sure.

If you are not exhibiting any symptoms is there really any need to take your car in?

Repost, I just wanted to let you know about my experience...

Well I got the MSP16 reflash today just to be on the safe side and I didn't realize I was missing so much power?!!? I just thought that was the way the car accellerated. The engine sounds sooo much smoother and getting the up the RPMS is a lot easier. Since this is my daily driver and I can notice a big difference. I just wish I had video of the RPM before and after but like I said I didn't think there was anything wrong with my car so I didn't think much of it.
I was just wondering about this engine cleaning because they did not do it. Do I need it? They recommended it but they wanted to charge me like $176.00. I usually use top tier gas mostly Shell and I redline like every other day or so.

I did, I figured prevention was a better solution to future problems than waiting for issues to develop.

Powertrain warranty should cover the any fees associated with the flash. I'm not sure about an extended warranty (I'd assume so, but I'd call multiple dealers first and make confirm they'll do it for free before you actually take your car in)

Scheduled mine today for Monday. Called, they did not ask if I was having any issues.

Even if I display no issues I still like to have my flash current (My wife said she gets bored if not ).

Take care,

Brian

Yes. As I read it, MSP16 is for all RX-8s, whether they're having symptoms or not.

Yes, I had the flash done this morning. Drove 30 miles. The drivability is improved. especially at low rpm, even in 6th gear. Like it has more torque response. The lag is gone. took it up to 7k rpm and it does so faster and smoothly. That lag barrier is gone. It has more spit now. Gas mileage is unchanged. Just runs better well worth getting it done. It's covered under warranty. I have an 04.

Zoom: so 'technically', if I call and schedule an appointment for an oil change, this should automatically be done?

And if it's not...??

I had mine in today to get the cat checked. Told them I would also like the new flash since it addresses some of the idle/start issues I have. The service writer said the flash was covered under the emissions warranty...? Also, the ticket says "Performed MSP16 Power Loss RECALL" So definitely warranty shouldn't be a problem unless it really is limited to 80k miles/emissions warranty but I don't think that sounds right.

The wording on the paperwork makes it sound like they should do this to all vehicles coming in for service, but the service writer at my place didn't even know there was a new flash. I wouldn't just assume it will be done under routine service without asking.

That said, I need a new cat and my car isn't running great so I can't tell if the new flash helped or not.

When I go in for the first oil change I'll go ahead and get the flash.

How much are the oil changes? Being the "Guy who's never had a new car" before, I have no clue, lol.

I just had mine reflashed this morning as it was time for a oil change. Like above, the service slip listed Recall next to the MSP16 entry.
I can't test the performance of the new flash. Too much snow on the ground this "Spring".

I had my car in for some other warranty work on Thursday (sunvisor TSB) and asked them to check the flash on the car. The tech writes down "rough idle - possible reflash" which lets them bill it against the warranty (I have an '04 with 50000kms on it and an extended warranty until 120k or April of 2010). When I picked the car up, it said "No further updates available", which suggests to me that either the Canadian dealers don't yet have this update or that Canadian vehicles aren't part of the bulletin, which would seem odd.

I've printed off the bulletin and am taking the car in next Tuesday to have a small dent removed from the rear quarter panel so I'll bring it up with him then and see what they say.
