These are the SAME engine mounts used on all RX-8's from 2006~,

Even the Series II has the Exact same Mounts listed in TSB, so one would imagine they have solved the engine mount issue with no change in parts for the last 4 years ...XX

Hey i have a CEL that's throwing a P2004 code. This is one of the service bulletins from 2007. If my RX8 is out of warranty, should I still be covered for this? Thanks!

Out of warranty means repairs are out of pocket for the owner. TSB's are only internal Mazda memo's to help resolve issues faster.

There are a lot of threads on this, but the short answer is that premixing will help your seals, and thus your engine, last longer. The only cons are that Mazda itself doesn't tell you to do this, nor does it sell the premix. Apparently they think that the psychological aspect of telling people to put oil in their gas tank would have scared off more customers than the reputation gained by replacing so many engines.

But if you search for "premix" you'll find a ton of good info.

the only draw back of premix is cost.

The engine gets lubrication for the rotors from oil injected into the combustion chambers.
There are times when it may not inject enough oil, with the most problematic case being when you flood the engine.

By using premix it gets better lubrication, and especially will always have enough, even when flooded.

The downsides are:
1) Cost of oil
2) Trouble to add oil when gasing up
3) You may be making illegal levels of emissions due to teh extra oil being burnied.
4) Some claim too much oil can cause deposits on the seals.
5) It may cause problems with the catalytic converter, over time.

Somewhere in another site, I read that synthetic will mess up the seals

Mazda, reports that heat and synthetic oil is the cause of RX 8 motor seal failures. If synthetic oil is part of the problem then why does Mazda require 5W-20 oil to be used which is a synthetic and petrolium oil blend wherein, synthetic polymers cause motor seals to shrink, harden and fail, per Mazda.

In addition if motor heat in hot climates (where is it not hot in the summer) is also a cause of motor seal problems, then why again does Mazada require use of 5W oil with a blend of synthetic polymers to make it thicker when hot. It is still a thin 5W oil no mater how thick it gets when hot and who in theit right mind would ever run a car motor with 5W oil and not espect it to fail, in short order because of the higher friction / grinding presure of moving parts against one another.

There are also claims that 5W oil is slicker than 30 weight oil....Duh !!! Well, oil is oil and it is all slick, but nothing is as slick as synthetic. If rotory engines run very hot why add more heat to the rotor and other seals with increased friction from a sparse blend of thin 5W oil with a thicking polymer.

One could suspect that 5W-20 oil (usually considered only a break in oil weight) is required because it takes less gas / power to move around a sparse misture of 5W oil blended with a thicking polymer....which increases the EPA miles per gallon rating of not just the RX 8 but also the MPG rating of the entire Mazada and Ford fleet of cars, at the espense of the durability of owners cars.

There are synthetic base polymers made to day that will not harden, shrink and break engine seals, but the ones used in "oil blends" usually are not these. In addition certain synthetic oils, will burn without any more residue than ordinary oil, which they claim damages the motor seals and cat.

In addition Mazda dealers have said the synthetic oils ruin the catalic converter...ah, did they forget the oil they require to be used is a synthetic blend. Then to save the catalitic converter Mazada reduces the oil injected to protect the rotor seals when the seals require luberication or they will fail, but EPA and Mazada is happpy.

Mazda, enginere are not stupid and must know all the above, but cheap seals, and oil make for good profits and easy solutions, all at the RX 8 car owners expense. Do you want to have your motor replaced by mechanics that are basically trained to maintain cars and not to install motors...which will just have the same seals and oil that caused the motors and cat to fail in the first place ??? Mazda should buy the cars back at the price paid, because the RX 8's are already depreciating twice as fast as other sports cars and trades will be costly to the current owners. Don't bring out the RX'8 again for sale to the public untill they honestly have solved the problems, so the car will last 125,000+ miles (comensurate with the price), if treated right.

They aren't a hicksville dealer, but I guess i'll take my business elsewhere. Anyone in SOCAL know of a good mazda dealership to take my car to? This was at RIVERSIDE MAZDA. I am not aware of any other ones nearby... help?

The guy obviously gave me a bullshit answer then. He told me they just issued an update to the filters 2 weeks ago... He said they were on order and would be here by monday.

sigh.

What "Update to the filters 2 weeks ago" are you talking about...

Edit...Yeah, BS ...., every dealer should have a few of these in stock all the time...NO Excuse!.

AFAIK there has been No change to the filter since its inception 19 months ago.

Idemitsu. Yes, it's synthetic 2-stroke, but it's what most of us pre-mixers use.

Or just order a few from Finishline Performance (Rosenthal Mazda), another valued vendor here and maintainer of the TSB log. If not listed on the site just send them a note. Tommy in parts never fails and he includes the oil pan crush washers with the filters.

It looks like they will be for warranty work only. That's what it says at the bottom of the "engine cranks no start" bulletin.

I've owned my car for about a year now, 05 shinka. I have yet to run into any serious problems with my 8. I do everything by the book yet I would not be surprised if I were to break down tomorrow though with all the TSBs I am positive my car needs (though not really sure cuz I dont really know how to find out). I think the answer to all the problems this car has though would be to replace the engine... maybe find a totaled 2011 Sonota and do an engine swap yeah?

ALL Good Brands of cars have equally as many if not MORE TSB's..

FD RX-7 had almost twice the amount. as the RX-8

Mazda 3 has about the same as does MX-5.

I would be VERY worried if ANY maker did not have them....a few do!!..

It means that good makers are listening to their Dealers/Customers and analyze all the warranty claims.

ALL good...don't you think??
