10% Ethanol gas at 93 octane has the same knock resistance as non-ethanol 93. Straight ethanol does have a better knock rating... But then they mix it with crappier gas to average at 93. And yes, 10% Ethanol has lower energy content. Ethanol also has a much lower stoich ratio (9:1 instead of 14.7:1) so you're running slightly leaner on 10% ethanol.

I really would prefer to keep the car drinking straight gas and keep the ethanol for myself... I think about how much I would hate drinking 10% gasoline shots, and realize how much the 8 must hate drinking 10% ethanol

Making you pay for the oil change is BS. They have to fill it when they put in the engine, should have been covered...

So why did you pay for an oil change? They should have tested the old engine BEFORE putting fresh oil in it. And on the new engine, they were going to give it back to you with no oil? I'd question that charge.
