Nail in tire

I got a nail in my tire. Do you have to go to the Mazda Dealer to fix it-because of the tire pressure monitor or can any tire repair place fix it?

Hopefully you can get it fixed. I had a nail but it was too close to the sidewall that it had to be replaced. Got raped by the dealer by paying $350 or so for a new one. Bastards.

as far as i know, any tire repair place can fix it. i would be reluctant to have the tire just patched though. being that these are high performence tires with low profile side walls, and the fact that they are on a car that handles the way the 8 does, i think you'd be better off just buying a new tire.

I would not waste money on a new tire, unless you're told the tire cannot be repaired.

Wherever you take it, you let them know there's a tire pressure sensor in the wheel ......... otherwise they might not be careful enough and shear it off.

Also, confirm that they can do the job without damaging the wheel ..... some places or not equipped for or won't touch 18" wheels or low profile tires. They should use a patch/plug which is installed from the inside of the tire.

haha so every time someone gets a nail in their tire, your answer is to buy a $300 new tire? That's ridiculous.

I've gotten 2 nails in the same tire over a 3 month period. 2 Plugs + service = $30.. not $600 for 2 new tires, heh...

Best advice is above - pre-qualify the dealer to make sure that:

1) they are experienced in handling high-performance wheels and tires - 18" wheels and low profiles.

2) They know about the TPMS sensor and won't damage it

3) They will apply an internal plug and patch to the tire, not plugging it from the outside

4) They will rebalance the tire after fixing it ...
