My first DYNO session. Bone stock charts included.

here are the details.

70degrees out with 3 fans blowing.

it was on a Dyno Dynamic. so have the sheets for with 'load' and 'unloaded' Dyno-Jet Converted.

My car is bone stock with a dirty filter and about 2K on the oil.

my first two runs they were unable to get A/F but they got it on the third run.

they pulled in 4th gear.

with load i was at 167.3HP without load on the jet converted was at 186.6 HP

Now that i have a base number to work with, i will continue to dyno with each mod i will add to the Rx-8. my goal is to break the 200HPmark N/A first

Why 4th gear? I always thought that since 5th was the 1:1 ratio you were supposed to shift through the first 4 gears, then floor it in 5th and run it to red...

Did I mis-understand somewhere, or is there an alternate way to do it?

They really should've dyno'd it in 3rd. You very likely would've got a better number since thats more in the optimal powerband for the car.

You'd be surprised the difference you can get.. I've dyno'd a bunch of cars in 3rd or 4th with similar gearing to the RX-8.

You are right, optimal is the 1:1 5th gear, but most have said that the car is generating too much heat and it takes too long for 5th to wind out, so 4th is a good compromise.

i was the 5th Rx-8 to be Dyno'd at this place and they said the same thing.

I don't see why it would matter. The computer has to adjust for gearing anyways, so what does it matter?

Even though 5th is 1:1, there is still the 4.4 final drive, so I don't see any difference.

using the 1:1 gear is the optimal situation. but im coming around to the idea of usingf 4th as well. 5th takes to long to run thru and things get dicey at 150mph on the dyno.

What is the difference between "loaded" and "unloaded"?

depending on the dyno used, it will bring the car through the rpm band at the same rate no matter what gear you use

break the 200 N/A mark first? Didn't someone allready do that with a bone stock 8 =P ....believe there was a dyno day in which someone managed to break 200 HP while everyone else was like 160-180

What is the difference between "loaded" and "unloaded"?

Loaded is to the True wheels to the ground, added resistance as you will, so HP to the wheels when you're driving.

and Unloaded is like to the wheels with no resistance, HP to the wheels when you're not driving.

sort of like a Mustang Dyno vs a Dyno Jet. Dyno Jets will always yield greater HP while a mustang Dyno and Dynamics yield lesser numbers.

oh yea! forgot to mention that the place I went to was a multi-purpose Dyno too. AWD, RWD, FWD accomodated. I was Flabbergasted when i saw an STI pull up and did a 196whp! i was but sure enough Jet converted it was around 235whp

the place is called DB performance in Rogers, MN its brand new too.

im not sure i understand. i could have sworn that to get hp figures, you had to put a load on the car, as horsepower is a measurement of work done over time. without a load, there is no way to determine the amout of work done.

There is a load, it's just not much like what you'd experience while driving.
