One reason for this:

ICBC has a possible (maximum) market of about 5 million people..

Any given, U.S. wide insurance company has a possible (maximum) market of 300+ million..

ALOT MORE competition down there..

Shop around. Full coverage with AAA costs me less than liability with my previous "cheap" insurance.

Check out the posts above, OP states he's in B.C. Canada, government run insurance. Can't shop around or get better rates.

Okay so my insurance company is being a real tease now. I just went in and got quoted at $266/month. I don't know which one to believe. I'm so confused!

I knew I would be paying more than for my 04 Sunfire but didn't realize it'd be this much.

Well, I'm done my whining. Good day.
I'm in Vancouver and paying ~$200 a month for ICBC. That's after an accident that took my discount from 45% to 5%...

so, yeah, are you like 16 or something?

Not trying to recruit or anything...

Join the military (I'm in the air force)

Reasons:

You get good money
Pays for school
but best of all....u get to join USAA

I pay 60 for full coverage, and im only payin full coverage because I got a loan through them too (5.9 apr )

Even better join the Reserves (I'm in the Air Force Reserves)

and...

Only work two days of the month, 15 days of the year
and if your low on money for some reason in your civilian life, call up your supervisor and tell him you want to work a few days and bam! your out of the hole.

not recruiting of course....*cough*

come on man, NYC.

Im dare to say 99.999999998% of NYC drivers cant drive for ****.

but people here also doesnt give a ****, they just cross without looking around. they all act like "wtf u gonna do, hit me and I will sue you" kind of attitude

Just tonight, when I was trying to make a left turn after red light, this freaking stupid kid just rush out to the road without looking, his grand father (I assume) didnt even stop him.

luckily I saw him and slap on my brakes hard. and the grandfather was starring at me like I did something wrong or some ****. so I roll my windows down and yell the **** out of him. I dont blame the kid, but adults should be watching them, dont let them freaking free style when crossing roads. if I really hit him, they will put all the blame on me and thats going to suck.

This is NYC.

$200 a month?

How old are you?

I'm 22, and I pay over $400 a month. One accident and zero tickets.. 20% surplus = 2X the cost?

I have a couple of speeding tickets and thats it. I actually thought it would be way more for me. I have collision and everything on my 8. When I bought my 01 grand am GT at 18 years old, with collision it was suppose to be 4500/year. Without collision it was 2200 or 2400. I forget. The rates drop at 18, 21, 22, and 25 I think.

Insurance has gotten way better in Alberta in the last decade. When you got your license at 16 you were looking at 2k+ on basic insurance regardless of the **** box you drove if you were insured on your own (for guys, girls was 1600+). Now it is a touch more 'reasonable'. It is around the 1k mark i think.
