Mazda RX-8 Turbo VS Porsche 997 Carrera 4S

It's a Cavalier
Did you even listen the video? The 8 slows down at the Porsche's rear quarter panel, and goes full throttle. Then when the 8 is door to door and has a big head start, the Porsche gets on it (in the wrong gear no less!) and still manages to stop his pull and passes him before a single gear change.
OMG that's a slaughter.

having 100 hp less will do that. But it's not like this guy can't increase his rx-8 to make over 350 whp. And the RX likely weighs a few hundred lbs less, so he can beat him. He just can't right now.

68 crank hp (50 whp) difference.
The 4S has a curbweight of 3252lbs, or a difference of 252lbs.
Worse yet, the RX8 didnt have a passenger. The Porsche had the camera man.
170lbs+252lbs = 422lbs difference. Factor in 10whp / 100lbs to compute a relative difference, and you should be almost even (50whp - 42whp).
I'm not saying this proves anything new... just reiterates what we all know. A turbo RX8 with it's peaky powerband and lack of torque is not good for roll racing, and not just drag racing.

it's not just raw hp. The 997 has more torque. So it's going to roll over him without issue.
I don't think you can call the turbo on his car peaky. It generates full torque from around 3k rpm, and keeps it at the same level till 7k.
drivetrain loss is around 11%, so that's almost 80 hp advantage.

I see an FD RX7 roll up on me, and I'm concerned. I know it might be kind of slow, but more likely it'll be UNGODLY fast. I'd like to see the RX8's begin to get that sort of credibility, and it'll happen once more of them start making those big numbers of 350-400whp+ consistently, and putting a few Porsches drivers in the their places.

At the moment, the most we've seen verified publicly amongst the community is Scott's recent ~370whp. And that's an every day, safe tune.
You want to get more aggressive with boost and fuel and auxiiliary injection - fine....maybe a tick past 400whp. But the guy in the 997 Turbo gets to go to the gas station and just fill up at the pump with no worries.
And 370whp may be enough to catch the guy in the 997 T off guard, but to beat him...doubt it.

I'm rooting for the turbo RX8's to start ripping it up. And yes, I agree, it is lack of torque that you can't make a comparison between a 250whp RX8 and most other 250whp 3000lb cars. I guess that's just a characteristic of the 2 rotor.

I think in a few years when used Rx-8's sell for dirt cheap, we'll see people buying them to mod, and then we'll start to see more of them with power. Until then, I bet theres virtually no chance of me randomly bumping into another 8 owner that has over 300 whp.

Really the race wasn't close. If you listen to it, the Carrera really wasn't in the proper gear. The 8 jumped out but you can hear the Carrera slowly building it's revs and towards the top of that gear he was pulling hard.
I raced a Carrera 4S on my bike once, he left before I did and AWD is quicker than I am out of hole, but I didn't catch him untill about 100 mph and didn't pass till about 120, they aren't slow by any stretch of the imagination. In order to beat that car he'd have to push 300 whp or more I would think.

Race? What race? All I saw was an embarrassing bitch slap.
