Manual vs Automatic
fail.. hate to break it to ya, but i have to agree with are-ex-eight on this one.. i love traditional stick shift, and will always own at least one car with it, but the future looks bleak for us. the auto transmissions are now way faster and way more reliable.. it's all about efficiency, and they've got it.

You are probably right, but unfortunately that means cars are becoming more and more no-brainers -which means [in my opinion] less skill to drive swiftly. Every thing will be fine... until the computer goes blue-screen or the idiot behind the wheel exceeds the the new, higher limits of the car. At that point, unfortunately, the low-tech tree trunks and lamp poles remain firmly the same.

yeah obviously they're becoming easier to drive, because they're taking out a lot of human error from the equation. i hate it just as much as the next guy... but it's reality of the situation. people want things that are more efficient, and we have the technology to supply that need. but there will always be that small percentage of old school sports car fanatics that will never give up the outdated MT
" mustang with a MT. Good luck finding an Import sports car with one in 5 years...
Automatics are not the enemy - torque converters are the enemy. I would definitely rock a dual-clutch trans. It irks me that people equate paddle shifters to any kind of transmission improvement. Your lancer ralliart doesn't have the same trans as a ferrari. I don't care if they give you *** shifters. It's the same "manumatic/sportronic/tiptronic" placebo shift trigger they've been putting on slush boxes for 15 years. It's just relocated to the wheel so you can at least keep one hand on the wheel while over heating your trans and texting. There's a lot of flavors in the auto to manual rainbow. TC/Planetary, SC/Automated, DC/Automated, manual. I don't know how many TC trans's don't use a planetary.
In bracket racing, autos are prime.

I've always thought Lancer Ralliart offers dual clutch transmission as an option, same with Volkswagen GTi.
Not all dual clutch systems are as complicated and precise as the ones on Ferraris.

Another thing to consider (not really a strong point) but AT's cannot be pull/push started in the event of an engine flood. Makes you have to rely on outside help in that case.
Also, unless its been changed, the AT isn't as powerful as the MT, and people already complain enough about the power level of the rx8. It really makes people want to drive the car to the limits, and in the case of AT it would make for less fun I think. BUT I haven't driven the AT so I cannot fairly judge that.

There was a thread here about someone (I believe an off duty cop, if I'm not mistaken) who's accelerator got stuck, who's family called 911, who was able to control his rapidly accelerating car until he hit something and they died, yet nobody there thought to push to Neutral.
When stuff starts working by itself, people forget how things technically work, and this poses huge problems when things go wrong.
As far as the topic goes, Drive whatever you want, just stay outta my way when you do so.
You are a retard for not reading it all. I traded in my Auto for a stick R3. I re posted on my original thread rather than starting a new one.
The only disappointing part in your case is you ended up with that new exterior...which I can't stand the sight of...but hey, at least you also acquired a better suspension and more aggressive gearing.
You won't be the last 8 owner to swap from auto to stick, but you definitely made the right decision. You mentioned this is your first manual car...well an 8 isn't really the type of car I'd want to start off with driving manual on since you have to rev this a bit more than your typical car, which is something that will likely increase your learning curve and cause you to wear out your clutch faster. But once you get it down you'll have a blast.

Or simply turn off the ignition.
Yeah, I know the power steering will quit and so will the power brakes. But, the vehicle is still steerable and still has some braking power - if you know what to expect and how to respond. Unfortunately, drivers are not required to demonstrate that they can respond to most vehicle malfunctions.

3. Some of us have gf's, wives, friends that will be driving the 8 (especially when I am drunk) and most of which do not know how to drive a manual.
Just teach them, it takes a day, 2 at most to teach. Even some of the stupidest people will learn..eventually.
