that reminds me - weren't you going to do a decent one where you could actually see what was going on ?

Personally, I don't have a lot of confidence in paddle shifters unless the name on the back of the car says Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes, and it is a $50,000 or higher high performance machine.
Admittedly, I don't have a lot of experience with paddle shifters, but they seem like too new of a technology for me.
As much as I like Mazda cars, I have to wonder if they have worked out all the bugs, whereas some high end Lexus would have.

Which makes me wonder if the lack of response means my thoughts on paddle shifters have merit, or, were simply something not worth responding to.

Oh oh one of these MT vs AT threads.
only thing i strongly disagree with is your last statment about city driving.
i dont see how driving in the traffic with a MT is such a pain. only thing you are doing is pressing down on more pedal. it only takes about a sec to push in the clutch , press the gas and put it back into neutral.

I think its all a matter of preference I guess. Someone like my girlfriend for example, she knows how to drive a stick, but absolutely REFUSES to own one. She doesnt give a rats *** about 1/4 mile times and crap like that, she wants something that looks cute with soft leather seats and a sunroof. An 04 4port RX8 meets the requirements for people like that, and theres more people like that than any other type.
TO each their own I guess.

AT- right Foot on brake, right foot moves to gas, right foot on brake again.
MT Right Foot on Brake, Left foot push in clutch, right foot moves to gas. right hand put it in First gear then back to netural.
i dotn see what is the pain you are talking about. just one more pedal to play with. but really what is the difference? i just dont see it.

I dunno, when I got stuck in bumper to bumper stop and go traffic on a highway, my left leg started to hurt after an hour of driving with partial clutch.
Not that I really care, MT all the way for me.

This argument isn't gonna go anywhere. I think its its personal preference and ability to drive stick shift. I know my dad hates stick because hes not that proficient and gave up while I continued to learn and find not having the third pedal weird and wrong.
Paddle shifters :-\. Not too much love for them.

exactly, thats why Ive never been an AT hater. I have friends that literally say "who gives a **** if its not as fast, I dont want an MT". I never understood that myself but everyones different. At least the ATs still have the handling and awesome looks.

At least people who can drive the MT just plain look cooler. That's gotta count for something
I do like being able to be in exactly the gear I want when I want. Can come in handy sometimes, especially if you are forced to handle some snow. Also, as someone who's had a few engine floods in my car, the MT's ability to pull/push start made me real happy.
