has anyone taken into account air conditioner use? im not sure how much gas this wastes, but if you have the a/c running full blast in the socal heat, you have to be losing some MPG. im on my 2nd tank, getting approximately 15 mpg. vin # ends in 114xxx.

I'm amazed at how organized this thing is going. MPG is hard to trend and I applaud you for taking the initiative to try to figure out one. Keep up the good work and hope you guys find something from this!

Thought you might like to see the spreadsheet.
PM me if you want to add/correct something. Since the graph is using average MPG, anything you can provide on that number is most important...for now anyway...
Hayseed, I've ace'd my stats courses, but, YUK! Besides, accounting for the use of AC? He he...right.
Y'all take what you see & really give it a large margin for error...say, 2 mpg maybe, for each car. Maybe more. I surely can't verify the accuracy of any numbers except for my own car. Differences in the duty of cars is HUGE. Like, mine doesn't even know what a mountain is yet... City/highway... AC useage... Transmission... Total miles/break-in... Hard driving habits... Soon a lot of us will have some really cold morning start-ups, some (like me) not so much so...

mpg calculations might be off for another reason
I just found this thread about ODO errors
If the ODO shows 10% more miles than you actually drove, then that means that your real mpg is 10% less :-(
There was also something about the speedometer showing a too high number, that's another story. I have to check on that too next time I see that cop's radar.
It's unclear if ALL RX-8s have the same mistake or only some.

15.9 - 16 MPG no matter what
107719 - 15.9 mpg no matter what my driving style. City, Highway, combined, windows open, sunroof open, traction control turned "completely" off.

Got mine Aug 23rd. It's a Winning Blue AT with 1650 miles.
VIN 109104.
22+mpg with 80% hiway. My best was 24+mpg with 95% hiway.
I usually get about 20-21mpg with 50/50 hiway/city.
I always use the cruise control to keep me at the posted speed limit (because if I don't get another speeding ticket this year my first one gets dismissed).

Problem is that traffic moves at 70 - 80 mph with the right lane "only" 70. I tried the cruise control, but it's just unbearable and not worth the fuel economy.
:-(
Last night doing ~80 mph I suddenly recognize a cop in a white Camaro pulled over to the side lights down, nobody recognized or slowed down.
In my mirror I see him merge onto the freeway, pass me and he pulled the guy in front of me over to the side.
Sigh.

For what it's worth and this may confuse ppl, but.....
I just filled it up now to recheck.
The first time I filled was around 1/2 tank and got 20mpg
Now i was at 1/4 tank (filled 11.7 gals) now i avg 16.3mpg..
I will admit a few things, i have driven it a tad bit harder and today I drove around for a short while with 4 ppl in the car....
i don't know....go figure.
I just filled it up now to recheck.
