Leaving the RX8 community.. :(

Well, the time has come to say goodbye to my beloved WB RX8 (aka Pololo). In the past 18 months or so, you were my BEST friend! I could see how others saw you with envy wishing that someday they could look as beautiful as you...

It's sad to say goodbye to a friend.. you were not only a car... but my friend as well who gave his life to protect mine...

Indeed, Pololo as I call him, was hit badly about 1 month ago by 2 trucks that were full of envy of how beautiful you looked... front and rear were smashed but you carefully deployed your airbags to hug me and save me from glass and debris...Needless top say, you couldn't be brought to life again...

At the junkyard just looking at him being lifted by a huge forklift brought tears to my eyes... yes yes I indeed get attached to my cars...

I will MISS you dearly...yes you were not the most powerful car outthere. It's not how "powerful" your car is... What counts is how much FUN it's to drive it, how nimble, how tossable, and how beautiful you sound...9K RPM? not everyone can do that...

We had plenty of fun, track events, AX, mountain drives, changing your suspension, your intake, your wheels and so on...

Your legend will continue to live on as some of your organs were donated ($$) to other forum members...

I was hit so bad that my back still hurts...

Now why wouldn't I get another RX8? well ... You were UNIQUE and no way to replace you... especially since I thank God my kids were not with me at the time you gave your life for me...

And for everybody else that stays in this community, please think about the beautiful and UNIQUE car you all have... it's a masterpiece and not just numbers!!!

Now I need to move on...I will stay with Mazda as I love what Mazda does with our cars... I need a 4 door with side airbags and "real seats" for my kids...I will go with the only car it's worth driving after getting "spoiled by you"... I will get a Mazdaspeed 3 and I am sure I'll be happy...

Now to all of you...enjoy the jewel you have while it lasts...

Goodbye RX8...

Carlos

I had a Mazda 3 2.3 hatch for 2 years before I got my Rx8. It was a great car, drove well had good power and had alot of room in the back seats. I think you'll be very happy with it.
One guy had got his into the 500hp mark and sells the parts to do it if you really wanna get crazy but over all it was a good car and I'm sure the Mspeed is gonna be alot of fun.
Only big differance was not having the 50/50 ratio, but over time you'll forget the feeling.

G/L and enjoy the drive!

Carlos,

It pains me to read your post because it's more apparent now then ever how much you cared for your car. Try and walk away from this with a smile on your face because just as you were always there when your car needed you (scheduled maintenance, joy rides to make her smile at 9K, and spoiling her with mods), she was there when you needed her most to protect you from that horrific accident.

You'll have to drop by every now and then to let us know how you like your MS3.

Que Dios te siempre proteja,
Jorge

Sorry to hear about the accident but it's a car man, lets not get carried away... Not that the Mazda 3 isn't a nice car but the above statement is so wrong in so many ways I won't even get into it.

Are there eight? I think "just" six unless the front and rear curtains are separate. Either way, few cars have more.

Sorry to hear about the loss. As someone else said, as much as I'd personally pick a Mazda3 over a CX-7 (still driving a Protege5 myself), the latter would be safer. Or step all the way up to the upcoming CX-9...

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the kind words... even Ike.

I am a Mazda guy and have been for a loong time (15+ years) having owned a 323, 323GTX, MX6, Miata and RX8...

People and "friends" keep telling me.. "get a real car like a Volvo, Audi, BMW(except for the M3) and so on"... then I go with them in their cars and when I drive them I say.. "did you feel anything?" "Did you feel connected to the road?"... I don't think so...

This is where Mazda excels... yes the RX8 wasn't the best (too many recalls but I didn't care) but it always made me feel that I was DRIVING instead of RIDING the car.

There are other cars and yes even better but for $22K with warranty (which is what I got for my RX8) the MS3 is HARD to beat.

I wanted the CX-7 but by the time I added all the options it became a $27K car easy!...so at this time I will opt for the MS3 since I still want to enjoy some AX, Track events, mountain driving and even grocery shopping.

We need to keep things in perspective... I wish I had the money to get me a new M3 but I don't so this will be sufficient...

Enjoy your 8

Carlos

The felt-impact is the only thing I probably do not like. I would of course take a light rear ending in a plush sedan, because in the 8 it is enough to bounce your head off the firm headrest and give some residual trauma in the head/neck area. A similar bump in a Camry might go almost unnoticed.

Now, I have driven a 2.3 hatchback as a rental for the recall. The first thing I did was remove those two rear headrests because they took up nearly half of the rear view. Pluses: I enjoyed the ease of driving in stop-and-go traffic, and not feeling so scared and vulnerable when driving. Somehow, driving feels a lot safer when seated in a larger, taller vehicle. Another plus is other drivers aren't out to get me so much. I sort of blended in to the masses. And another plus was being able to load up on tons of groceries, and to have a trunk with a handle.
