Optima Red Top G35 R:

You need the height spacer for that one, definitely.

Otherwise, the dealer will probably replace it under warranty with a specific Interstate battery with similar power specs to the Optima.

The Mazda recommended replacement battery is the Interstate MTP-35 with 640CCA. You may get a dealer to replace the OEM battery under warranty if you squack loud enough. If you buy one, go to an Interstate Battery dealer or you will pay through the nose at a dealer. At Interstate, the battery retails for about $70USD.

I went with the Optima Yellow-top (35 series). It has more than enough cranking power, and is designed to withstand deep discharges. That's practically a must these days for any car that isn't always driven frequently, as the electronics draw down the battery if left sitting. Also, it's particularly well-suited to the RX-8, given the possibility of having to go through "deflood" attempts. I want a battery that will survive deep discharge, and maintain voltage further into the discharge.
