just got my tranny rebuilt, think it might have to go back in
I wrecked the synchros in second and fifth so i took my car into a shop to get the transmission rebuilt. I picked it up on saturday, and went to a friends and then drove home at midnight. I had a three hour drive and i could smell a little bit of smoke but i assumed it was just some oil on the outside of the transmission or they got a bit of something on the exhaust pipe. This morning i took it for a short drive and the tranny had a terrible whine so i put it on ramps to see where the smoke was coming from and found out that the drain plug was missing. So my question is, is my tranny f*cked? I'm talking to the shop tomorrow and was wondering what i should be going for should it be rebuilt again and them replace all the bearings again and if they tell me to just put oil in it and thats good enough should i make them check it out? Its a good shop they work a lot on rx7's and thats why i take my car there, but it is a three hour drive. So my car may have been without much oil in the transmission for a hundred to two hundred km's. Thanks for your time.

So what was up with the drain plug? Is the shop responsible for that? That drain plug is actually a bolt. It doesn't just come out by itself. Someone didn't tighten it.

I took it in they think the drain plug just wasn't tightened and fell out on the drive. All new bearings are ordered and the owner of the shop said that anything that doesn't look mint in it will be replaced. The eight was quite the challenge to get onto the car trailer to get down there though, had some fun with that.
