Someone tried stealing my RX8...

Okay guys this happened about 2 weeks ago...It's getting pretty weird if you ask me. Well i live on my own, in a nice part of town, and i've had a lot of work done on my house recently...So 2 weeks ago i woke up at about 2 in the morning to my alarm going off on my car...and it was in my garage, it was really creepy. i had locked the door and everything so i looked out the door and nothing was open so i just shrugged it off...

i woke up the next morning to go to the store, and go to my 8 and try to start it. Click, click, click. Nothing. So the battery is dead and i notice the passenger dome light on, and i don't know why that's on, i never use it. I got the 8 running fine after charging it a bit, and then i called the cops. They came out and said someone had picked the lock (there isn't a deadbolt).

A few days later i got all the locks changed on my house and garage, and added deadbolts, and a motion censor light outside. Now i'm a big hunter so naturally i have guns in the house, but they're all downstairs, and when i heard that alarm going off all i could think about was getting to a gun, i mean i was honestly scared.

Since then i've been sleeping with my Benelli near my bed. Then 3 days ago (thursday) i woke up to the neighbors dogs barking around 1 o'clock in the morning, and i head to the kitchen and see a light on, i think to myself, that's weird i turned all the lights off...I get to a where i can see out and the motion light is on.

I wait for a few minutes until it goes off and then wait a little bit to see if anyone goes by or anything, nothing happened, so i went back to bed. A few minutes later i see the light go on again, this time with my shotgun in hand, I go outside and look around and no one was there. So i waited a minute or so, and i hear a car start up a few houses down (obviously with some kind of exhaust) and hear him speed off. I called the cops again and told them about what happened again, so hopefully they'll get some more cars patrolling around here now...

That sucks that he is trying to steal your car while it is sitting in your garage. I got to say that takes some big ***** to do. I installed cameras for peace of mind in our new house that have infared to film at night also.

Yeah, i've thought about getting a security camera too, and the weird thing is, my ex wife had a break in a little over a year ago, when she was asleep, and they made off with my sons camera, ipod, and a 47 inch flatscreen.

Cameras are a mans best friend. I, personally, couldn't stand the though of somebody rummaging around my house with me in it.

did you have your garage closed? maybe i missed something but that seems to be your biggest problem....

i am sympathetic but, i don't really see how someone can get into your garage without you hearing it open (mine is REALLY loud and it shakes the house a bit lol)

i hope they catch this guy.

Yes my garage was closed, and side door locked. Keep in mind i'm 61 years old, so my hearing isn't the best, and my garage is separate from my house, not connected.

Hopefully you've scared them off for good now...

For added piece of mind you could add fake camera's next to security lights at the entrance points to your garage/property

umm, i would seriously consider stake-out mode with your shotgun close. A warning shot never hurt nobody. I think.

Damn, I wouldn't have been able to get back to sleep.

Be careful going out there, it's not worth getting shot by some crackhead.

Get a nightvision camera... I am looking to get a cheap NightVision Camera and mount it to watch where my car parks and have it record to my pc during the night with the help of my computers tvtuner... I believe that would be a wise investment. I always fear getting keyed or stolen.

not a bad idea. if they do come around, you can call the cops right away so they can catch the guy.

if your fear is that bad, you need to move.

61 Yr RX8, I wish you the best of luck with your situation. It's not a fun time is it?

I've already had a break in and theft on my property and it's a very emotional situation. We seem to be having things disappear again so I'm not sure what to do at this point. I live on 11 acres and there's plenty of woods for a perp to just hide and wait for the proper moment, which is what thay did the last time. The wife and I went out for a bite to eat. We were back in 1 1/2 hours and they made their move. We didn't discover it till the next day.

I've always heard the best defense if you are confronted with someone is having a pump shotgun and racking a shell into the chamber. The sound alone is enough to make them run. I'm thinking it's time to get a dog that likes to eat flesh and chew bones.

Hey, can I bring a carcass down to Florida or over to Texas and let one of you guys claim him?

No, you shoot the ground in front of you.

Scares the **** out of the thief. You yell at them to stop.
They freeze. You call cops and that's it.

No one will attempt to flee after they here that gun shot.

why wouldn't they? If they're not in your house, and they're not an immediate threat to you, you aren't justified in shooting them.

Actually MYSQL,.......in Florida that has now changed! You're able to stand your ground anywhere. If someone comes at you and you believe you are in imminent danger, you can put a cap in their ***. Remember this however.............you can still be sued and you'd better be real sure you have witnesses that heard you tell them to halt or they see that the person was coming at you with intent and you were in fear of your life. Dad always taught me to empty the gun and that way if nothing else, you can just claim that you were so freaked ouot you just kept pulling the trigger......kinda like temporary insanity.
Plus............."Dead men tell no tales".
To the OP(Original Poster).................my motion light outside goes off occasionally due to an animal or even a tree moving around in the wind. Hell, I've had a bad sensor on on of my windows in the townhome and when that bastard goes off at 3:00am, it will get your attention. Jump outta bed, grab the loaded .357 in the bedside table and then head downstairs. Heart pumping like you wouldn't believe. Do the whole checkout of both the downstairs and upstairs, then try to get back to sleep. ugh!
Finally replaced that magnetic sensor on the one window!

A person fleeing (running away from you) poses no threat to you, thus you wouldn't be able to shoot them.

True................but it used to be that you better make sure they fell inside your house, that is what I was responding too. Obviously you can't shoot them in the back and I wouldn't.................if they were fleeing...............and nobody in my family was hurt. If so..............someone is dying! Rest assured.....even if fleeing. I'll spend my days in the slammer at that point............no problem.

You should put a 4G shot gun to the door with a trip wire so they get opened up if they try and come in

Hey Maz. I have a pretty nice .45 if you ever want to bring your magnum to the gun range. I'm very safe, so you don't have to worry about damage to your other foot
