Wow, that new keyless system seems great. Wish I had it. Just curious—are there any disadvantages at all, compared to old-fashioned traditional keys like the rest of us have? I can't think of any.

Yeah, you have to have the service dept. set that option on for you. Not sure what that involves or the cost.

For those of us with the keyless entry and start fob, what do you do when you want to leave the car running and also lock the car? I find myself having to pull out the metal key and manually locking it. The buttons appear to have no functionality while the car is running. Thoughts?

Yea that's what I do as well. The lock button won't work and if you manually lock the car (not using the key) it unlocks when the door closes. Im gonna ask the dealer if you can program it to lock automatically when the engine is running and you exit the car.

i wish it has a real push start button instead of having to twist that knubby thing which imitates a regular key start. It is the only part that lets it down. I mean what's the point of this intelligent key when one has to twist start the engine anyways? People will still think it's a regular key twist start.

The point is you don't have to remove the key from your pocket to start the car.

Yeah, I am definitely a fan of the Lexus IS250/350 start button. Oh well. I suppose this was Mazda's way of implementing keyless entry/start without redesigning the the entire console and steering wheel.

BTW: The twisty turn thing is actually just a cover, because you can still insert a key if you really wanted to.

the point is that "start buttons" are the most played out OEM "trick" of the past seven years. Everything from regular Benz's to s2k's come with that. Kudos to Mazda for doing something different, but keeping it simple.

did the 04's ever come with an auto-unlocking feature where you just walk up to the car and it automatically unlocks... if so, any idea how to enable it? I just bought my car this weekend and im looking to find out all the neat features haha... the night I got it in my driveway I spent a solid hour playing with all the buttons and *****, LOL

I have this and I love it! I keep the key in my wallet and I never need to reach for it!

I really dig this feature. The only problem it spoils me for other cars -I get in my Fiancee or Mom's car and I try to start the car with no key (try to push down a clutch that isn't there too)
