I Don't Understand

Luckily for you, that extra 50 horse is attainable with some light mods to the platform that Mazda has provided you with .
Everyone is always going to want more out of a car, ALWAYS... If it isnt performance, it is to be more user friendly, or more fuel efficient, or more comfort... Sure the other cars in Mazda's lineup may have more power, but as it has been said, they have more competition. The 8 has its niche, and its following, just like the other cars in the line up have.

Intake/exhaust/cat delete/AP, maybe porting.
Or, it is as easy as adding nitrous, which has been proven to easily and "safely" add up to 60 horse shots, with more hope for higher shots coming in the future. Add an AP to nitrous and you should be able to get higher numbers more safely.

Well, fairly light... Lighter than going FI I suppose.

you need to take the engine apart to do it
Intake/Exhaust/Cat/Pulley are light mods.
Even Flywheel/clutch are not light mods

But you figure 10 from an intake, 10 from an exhaust, 5-10 from a cat delete, add an AP to that and you are pretty much there...

HAH yah cracking the engine open... not light!!!
What did that racing team's NA RX8 dyno? Was it 230rwhp? That's the all time highest NA Renesis, right? I'm not sure if there's much more, if anything they could have done to the Renesis to squeeze more power out of it...

So even if you meant 50 "crank" horsepower, that means you still would have to pick up 42.5 rwhp. That's why you got the BS flag thrown at you.

The stock intake system already works very well for it's application. There has been zero air flow information posted regarding aftermarket intakes to suggest any of them do much more than increase the noise coming from the front of the car. Most of the intakes with the exception of the RB intake and AEM/Mazdaspeed use a different diameter tubing which tries to fool the MAF into running lean. The PCM can correct it's fuel values and negates that.
A cat-delete does seem to yield some power across the range but not much. Headers also do very little because the RENESIS is a zero overlap motor. Now, there is a header configuration which has been used on an RX8 making about 224whp.
Nitrous is an alternative but most people are not willing to deal with it and nitrous can only be used in WOT situations and with drag racing. It has limited uses.
With intake, full exhaust and headers you'd probably be looking at about $3000 total for quality parts.

I know our cars don't benefit much from many of the mods out there, which doesn't bother me. But I always wondered why a lot of the American car platforms seemed to gain so much from simple mods such as intake, headers, and exhaust. Are they that restrictive stock?
