Yeah, tell me about it. If you ever get a group of 5 people together and start talking about times they got screwed on eBay, you'll be there for 4 hours. Everyone has a story and everyone is somehow an expert about to deal with these situations. But it brings people together in anger -- and isn't that what life is all about.

This is in my backyard (Nor Cal) so it frosts me!

Here's what I got when just did a live chat at ebay motors:

Keith M.: Hello! Welcome to eBay Motors live chat, my name is Keith. How may I be of assistance?
orangekool: This vehicle isn't the model (Shinka) as advertised and the VIN is not legit. It should be pulled.
Keith M.: I have reported this item to be looked into by our Trust & Safety team, for the safety of the site. If you like, I can tell you another way to report these, for future reference.
orangekool: Several memebers of the mazdaclub forum have sent questions to the seller that are not showing up on the listing page. Yes please let me know.
Keith M.: To report a possible fraudulent listing, you would need to click on the Help button at top of page, then beneath Help on the left hand side of the page click "Contact Us", then select the option "Problems with Other Members", then select the option "Fraud concerns for buyers", then "Report a listing you think is fraudulent(you didn't bid)" or go directly to this link and click Email: http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_u...e=Continue+%3E
Keith M.: As for questions being posted on the listing page, that is a choice of the seller.

Keep it real gang!

you don't have to steal a car to scam someone on ebay.

step 1: find a VIN, salvage VIN works because people are less likely to check up on those, and they also won't question the low price as much.

step 2: search the internet for pictures of listed car to put in the ad. personal photos work better than stock photos because it makes it seem that the person listing is out there actually photographing the car.

step 3: commit the scam. make off with a few thousand dollars.

that's one way they could do it...just ask for a higher deposit. or they could do one of the other scams out there. i'm sure there are good deals, and honest sellers on ebay motors, but to me, the risk is just too much...especially without even being able to see the car. not saying i'd never buy a car of e-bay, it would just have to be a special circumstance and the only way i could get that car.

I went to a car show on Friday night, and they had a Shinka there. But, it was a grey Shinka. It said it was a 2005, too. I checked out the interior, and it was off-white microfiber, it was VERY nice. So I guess it is possible that the seller is not telling a lie! Though very, very, very unlikely, especially if he's not responding to questions.

Yeah, except that technically they are for the 2006 model year that they come in gray, and they just started hitting lots in the last week or two. The whole VIN thing is what is the problem with this car. It is still a scam, just not known the exact type of scam being run here.

I also noticed he only accepts cash or checks, which after he cashes them, is next to impossible to get your money back if it is a scam. It also says the interior is leather, but it has black and gray seats, which means it is not leather unless it was a custom job, which I doubt. His "most major accessories" essentially lists the basics that already come on the car, too.

Something else... look at the date he joined eBay, (31Mar06), in addition to that, his feedback rating, (0). One other item, why wouldn't he post a photo of the VIN plate, seems to me that it's real easy to see. I sent him an email asking for more photos, (no reply), and when I called his phone, I got no answer. Yea, I'd say this has scam written all over it.

Told my friend about the idiot and he did some digging. He said he couldn't find the cell phone number registered so that means it most likely is a prepaid phone, not a regular traceable service. Although he said it also could be a "new" number so it hadn't hit a directory yet.

Complete and total ripoff. I emailed him too and have gotten no response.

Oh, I found the link. And I went through every single category looking for something along the lines of "item description invalid". They don't have a category like that.

And when you finally do click on one, it just tells you to look at the Help page. It doesn't say that your report was filed.

I bought a motorcycle on Ebay, but I made sure I went and saw it before even placing a bid! Then I just sold that same bike through Ebay, and someone used Buy It Now without even looking at or asking about the bike! Take the good with the bad. Some people are lacking in common sense.

He doesn't have any bids as of right now, so maybe he'll take a hint.
