RX-8 Discussion General discussion about the RX-8 that doesn't fit in one of the specialty forums.

How many of you think you'll get 100,000 miles from your RX-8 with no major repairs??

Not that here the truth matters or anything.
Yeah, my compression numbers were all in the low 5s hot and it was still quite drivable. Just idle and starting issues. I think it varies widely by case though how bad it is, how long the owner waits to have it checked out, etc.

Any properly maintained vehicle should last a reasonable time (except tires & battery), even turboed motors. I currently own a tt Fd boosting 11 psi that I've been daily driving for over three years without hickup.

The reason I'm here is because last friday I was at Pettit's for a new clutch, and Cam took me for a ride in his supercharged rx8. Needless to say I found myself holding tight to the door handle. lol

oh, nice interior and a very impressive chassis aswell.

Depends on a lot of stuff.....I didn't expect mine to last that long...and it didn't

But I have close to 40 hours of WOT track time on the engine...and that is like 200K miles in normal street driving.

Normal driving...should be no problem to get 200K NA.....

Truth is, I took my first test drive last Saturday, and I am totally in love. I want one, and dealers lots around here are LOADED with RX-8's so I think a really good deal can be had.

Problem is, I'm being driven out of my current relationship with a totally unreliable POS Ford Taurus SHO at 59,000 miles. The 32 valve V-8 and ZF steering box is fun, but the transmission failures, power steering failures, CAM maintenance issues have pushed me over the edge. Enough is enough.

So I can't take another "shop car" no matter how fun it is.

My measure of a decent ride relibility wise is to get 100,000 miles without a major repair. Is the RX-8 up to it???
It depends on the driver, on what day of the week the car was built, and many other factors...

Why stop at 100K? Ha, I'm aiming for at least twice that! Yeah, I see no major repairs in my future, I got a good one

I don't see why it wouldn't. It has a new motor and clutch thanks to Mazda so I'm sure the car will last just fine.

With that said, though, I made sure to buy an extended warranty so if I have to eat my own words later on I'm covered.

I've got an '04 and I've passed the 112K mark. The only major item that I've replaced was the alternator, which was outside of 60K miles.

I probably won't have the car that long since right now my 2004 has about 20,000 miles on it and I plan on upgrading in a 2 years or so when I move back to the states.

if it was build on the builder's happy day, say, divorced , then expect your car to last over 200K

but if it was the day he got married ... then good luck to you

lol

70,000 so far, and no problems. Runs as well as the day I bought it. I still owe $20,000+ on it, so it better last one hell of a lot longer than 100,000 or I will be forever in debt.

My goal, = 200,000+. I don't see why I can't reach it, a NA rotary should last longer than a conventional engine would.

a blown engine?! i think that goes against the "get to 100k miles w/o major repairs" part of the thread title

anyways, what exactly about your engine was "blown"? the only thing possible would be an apex seal

An all to common problem with the RX-8 compared to the norm.

At least for me, knowing the risks of the car makes me take much better care for it than I would any other. Theres no reason it shouldn't make it to 100k.

I'm seeing more and more people post with high mileage updates and am feeling like there is no need to worry. I think that high wear parts such as the clutch will eventually go but the engine itself should be fine if maintained well. There will always be an exception but the odds seem to be on our side.
