RX-8 Discussion General discussion about the RX-8 that doesn't fit in one of the specialty forums.

How many of you think you'll get 100,000 miles from your RX-8 with no major repairs??

I have a 2004 with 1,500 miles on the engine, so at this rate, I'll hit that 100,000 mile mark in about 250 years. Then again, if I get a new engine every 25,000 I'll never get there in terms of engine miles. How long do you think the body and othe components will last? Is 250 years realistic?

Doing some calculations at my current rate of annual mileage (16k/yr) I will hit 100k in 6.5 years (or 5yrs and 3 months from now; Feb. 2013). It will be a most unusual occurance if I keep any car that long so I don't think it will be an issue.

If this Rotary holds up like my 7's did, it will go 300K no prob.
I have owned 2
RX7's that went past 100K with out a clutch, 190-220K without a single problem past an alt, starter brushes, one differential.
Mind you these cars stayed on the rev buzzer whenever possible anfd never hiccuped.

Well, I hate to be a skeptic, but since I had my engine replaced around 44,000 because of power loss, it will always be in the back of my mind that that could happen again, only the next time it won't be under warranty. I'm at around 51,000 now.

But I try to have confidence that the reprogram or whatever they did should make the power loss thing not happen again. I'm sure I'll buy whatever car that new rotary engine goes into anyway, and I'm hoping it will be before it hit 100,000

If for some reason mine has a compression problem outside of warranty I'll be selling it. Not ponying up the cash for a rebuild.

I hope Mazda has "wised up" on the remanufactured engines by now. Anyhow, with the reman engine at 48K I'll stay positive and think it'll last.

What's all the fuss? Why worry yourself over what might happen? Examples; What if I??? Need major Repairs, crash the car,get a speeding ticket, blow a tire ,pick up a psyco, end up divorced, get cancer..........see what I mean? The "what ifs" get you every time. It's pointless. You could come up with lists of worries daily. Don't! Live in the now! That's not the same as being reckless.( dont' go buying any car made in Hugoslavia )but be assured, your car, as well as everything else ( except diamonds ) will ultimately...you know...die. Live while your here. Drive while you can and buy the RX8. You won't be sorry. And should you buy one and find you are sorry....trade it in and give someone else a chance.

82k on my 2004 MT no problems.
Hit 9k every day.
17.5 MPG Lifetime Ave. (mostly stop and go)
Three set of tires.
Third set of front brakes, second set of rears.
Many oil and filter changes.
Three air filters.
New brake fluid once.
Three sets of plugs.
One set of wires.
No coils.
Runs the same as when it was new.

At the rate I'm going (4000 miles per year), I don't think I'll live long enough to put 100,000 miles on my RX-8

Got all of 3000 miles on my 05. I love the car, just don't drive it, maybe I'll sell it if it isn't too much bother.

My only real concern with the RX-8 is the rotary engine failing from carbon fouling or other uncorrected issues that have caused a number of RX-8 engines to fail to date. Only time will tell if this has been corrected. Beyond that the RX should be average for reliability.

100k? I hope so! This is the first car I've owned that I want to keep "forever". I just bought it as an 07 in July. A little over 6k miles now. It has more rattles then I'd like or expect from a Mazda. That does bother me a bit.

Should easily last over 100k without major expense...as long as people aren't too rough on them. Consistently pushing your 8 to the limit will

This is my first car, but I love it so much that I just want to keep it a part of my garage forever, so hopefully it will last for well over 100,000 miles.

The previous owners put 39,000 miles on it, now it's my turn.

Actually, a small percentage of engines have failed a compression test and, as a result, were replaced. Instead of repaired. To say a number of RX-8 engines "have failed" is misleading, as it suggests to the uninformed that the engines in question self-destructed, seized up, or just "up and quit". Which is not true. Not that here the truth matters or anything.

My fingers crossed I'll last that distance....
