Would not even want to hit an animal on some empty road at that speed....

My track car has a rollbar, 5-point harness and racing shell. I wear a helmet and protective clothing. The car has an extinguisher system. I do not want or plan to die in my car as too many people depend on me.

Couple of jackasses were racing on Long Island a few years ago. The surviving driver is now in jail on manslaughter charges. You don't get to drive in jail.

My advice, try autocross to learn skills and then find some track time thru SCCA or some other club, then check out your top speed.

What do you mean you dont get to drive in jail? You actually do. You get to drive yourself crazy for the next 20-25 years At least you can watch BBC or SPEED and see the 8 be driven on a track .

I got up to 136 at the end of that straight at summit point, bone stock at that point. It's a fairly long straight for a track, and the corner coming on to it....probably exited at around 70mph. With unlimited room I have no doubt it'd do close to 150.

Felt fairly solid too. I'd really love to drive a car that fast that had some legit downforce,,,

ok NEW QUESTION: how fast has anyone with FORCED INDUCTION / significantly more power than stock, gotten up to? I know at high speeds its a law of diminishing returns, but I'd have to assume a 300whp rx8 could get up to 165ish?

That governor is also referred to as physics. Drag, friction, shitty engine.

That's not true. I'm not 100% sure about series 2, but series 1 did not have a limiter. (maybe in some places?). I went faster than that in my 8 (track, of course ) and people have hit redline in 6th gear on a dyno @184 mph. As mentioned above... physics is the only thing holding it back.

184 on a dyno...amazing what you can do without drag.

Series I automatics have a 125 mph speed limiter. That's been the subject of several threads over the years.

How many people in this thread (which goes back a long way) had their warranty voided because Mazda saw how fast they bragged they had gone?

I was just saying what I've read, I've never got high enough to see, I've gone over 140 a few times never passed 145. I'm sure most of stock, get eaten by a Camaro SS shortrun, but I was pretty impressed racing one at high gear. Inched on by lol
