See avatar. That's in mph. This will more than likely get shut down depending on the conversation. That wan't on a street. I wasn't breaking the law.

Yeah I really doubt that (160 mph). I've been up to 234 kph which is about 145 mph and I doubt it would go faster. Maybe the 160 wasn't stock and/or it was going downhill or something?

Thumbs down

I hope these top speeds are on the track or some sort of closed course. Never mind the legal stuff, 145mph is HIGHLY IRRESPONSIBLE on the street. Putting your own life at risk on the track is one thing, but on the street you could also put others who might not share your love off speed at risk. Would not even want to hit an animal on some empty road at that speed....

My track car has a rollbar, 5-point harness and racing shell. I wear a helmet and protective clothing. The car has an extinguisher system. I do not want or plan to die in my car as too many people depend on me.

Couple of jackasses were racing on Long Island a few years ago. The surviving driver is now in jail on manslaughter charges. You don't get to drive in jail.

My advice, try autocross to learn skills and then find some track time thru SCCA or some other club, then check out your top speed.

I've taken mine to around 111-112mph. I haven't tested it, but I hope it's not true that the auto 8's limiter is set at 125

I'm pretty sure this is already a thread and the moderators didn't shut it down. Sure it's not safe to go 145mph on a street, but many speed on track alone. I don't see a problem with people hitting this speed as long as it's on a closed course. If you're going 150mph on the highway then you've got a death wish, and maybe an extra few for some lucky pedestrians or other drivers.

I believe this is true. A friend had it at 125mph. I had mine at 115mph.

PS. I just checked the FAQ and bans are only placed for kills or street racing discussions, not against unsafe driving practices. So technically, as long as no one mentions going against another car, seems like this thread should be safe, non? Afterall, determining the 8's speed limitations doesn't undermine the policy consideration behind such bans, which is to prevent flame wars on this forum.

Just an observation

And now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

I don't know what it is about 120, but I've had several sports cars that can go easily over 120 but I never seem to go above that point.

Maybe you're in too high a gear? In my auto, I tried to hit 125 in 4th but I could never do it because acceleration got so slow. Then I discovered that 3rd gear redlines at 125mph and that made it a little easier (though I still haven't been able to get it that fast). I don't know; just a thought...? :o

heh. No, the car can go above that point, I just decide it isn't worth risking getting a ticket or worse. Keep in mind when I owned Porsches, I was up in NJ, and there are cops behind every tree and bush. Here in FL there aren't as many speed traps, but I still quit at 120-125 as the acceleration started to slow.

I guess you have an automatic, cause I've redlined my 4th gear and I don't think I was doing 125.

edit: duh, you even said you had an automatic. My reading comphrension teacher did a poor job with me.

I have also been to 125 in 4th on the last straight at Sebring. That was at about 9300rpm. I did not have enough time to shift into 5th before having to brake for the turn.
