They made the 05s more 91 octane friendly, but that was only for the STi, the WRX has never had big engine issues (though cylinder #4 seems to be the one that misfires most often due to the boxer setuup). I own an '03 because I loved the bugeyes, as soon as I saw the new headlights on the 04s I pulled the trigger.

I prefer to think of it as "breathtaking." I think my car is just thanking me for letting it go on the track and autocross courses frequently.

Yeah I accidently did that to mine as well. I was crusing on the highway and I was in 6th gear. I wanted to zip it into 4th for a little acceleration and the damn syncros are so good in the tranny that I screwed up and flipped it into second gear. I about crapped my pants. The tach pinged as far to the right as it would go. I had no idea what RPM's it was, but it was a heck of a lot higher than 10k. I thought sure I blew something up, but nope, it's been running fine still and it has been about 8 months since I screwed up.
I also did the same thing... 3rd gear at wot, about 100mph and accidentaly went into 2nd instead of 4th. Rev counter musta been close to 12k. After 8years of driving experience I couldn't believe I did such a thing. Car still drives fine, but if it was a piston engine we all know it would be over... Good to hear all other occasions had no problems
at least a friend's car was over, about 400euros damage to the engine.

Just as long as you all know that if you go from 3rd to 2nd in an STi, you'll get at least 13,000RPM out of it, and every rev will be usable...

to tell you the truth all of em are ugly, im big into gc8's. but i do prefer the 04+ redesigned headlights, they look cooler to me than the bug eyes
