Then you're one of a very small few who can handle the responsibility. Most people (adults) can't resist the temptation to overdrive a car with 300 hp.
My first car was a '59 Chevy with 185 hp and I still got in trouble street racing. Most kids will drive dangerously whatever car they can get their hands on.

OK, 2 things I think I need to add here -
First and foremost, I used to type using characters and numbers...
most of the time, if u type like this, its not because u r immature or 2 young. ppl who type like this r generally hunt'n'peck typers, and cuttin a few corners lets u type fster.
Yes - it's annoying as hell to read, but it doesn't reflect THAT strongly on someone's age and maturity. Hell, my DAD types like that - it's just a time saver.
Secondly, why the hell hasn't anyone told this kid about how MAINTAINING an RX is almost as big of a responsibility as driving one? Can't start & stop it like a normal car, have to warm it up differently, have to cool it down differently, have to drive it a certain way, have to choose your engine oils differently, need to pay attention to your engine temps more closely, have to pick & choose your upgrades more carefully, blah blah blah the list goes on...
My first car was a non-turbo FC and my poor parents had to have that thing towed and fixed nearly every time I turned it off. For a 17-year-old to *happily* own an RX, the day you buy it, BEFORE YOU EVEN DRIVE IT OUT OF THE LOT, pop some Ritalin, bring some study materials, and read the owners manual cover-to-cover. You wouldn't believe some of the **** you'd find in there...
If you want an RX-8 for any reason other than "I drove one and I loved it and I want it NOW," then you're getting it for the wrong reason. You're either going to crash it or break it within your first year.

Very true. Kids need a cheap, safe, reliable car. The 8 is not cheap, it's reliable but not like a civic and you have to pay attention to the motor. We won't even talk insurance and fuel. Do yourself a favor kid. Buy a Civic.

My car hates me, then?
It really depends on the driver and the mileage. Some people have driving styles that just naturally mesh well with the RX. I know a guy who lives less than a mile from me with an FD that has almost 200,000 miles on the original motor.
Maybe you're one of the lucky few...

...and I wouldn't say you'd have to settle for something as pathetic as a civic. If you want a fast & fun car and think you can handle the responsibility, get a GT Mustang, STI, Evo, or S2000.
And, from my experience, RXs are for people who like to *drive* - not necessarily 'race' or 'show off.' Of all the cars I just listed, the RX-8 is the slowest, and I know for a fact the S2000 and Evo handle better, so if you're wanting an RX-8 for the sake of racing or showing off, there are plenty of better choices out there.

This is a well made car & will last a long time if maintained properly.
Actually I lied - I have started getting more **** about it in the last 6 months - but only because it has grown on me so much.

I'm not exactly sure what 63,000 km is in terms of miles, but I know you've got less than 60k miles on it, which is probably why you haven't seen any problems.
Rotaries (at least the old 13b's.... I could be mistake about the Renisis - this is my first one), are like tanks for the first 70k-80k miles or so. You can drive them like you stole them, change the oil every 15k, run it on bad gasoline, and shift at 9.5k in every gear with only minor complications to the car...
...but once you hit 75k or so, all the wear'n'tear kicks in at once. If you're quick to spot it, you can patchwork it to get about 150k BABIED miles out of it, but that's about it. However, if you can get to 90k with no problems, 49 out of 50 times this means your rotary would put a honda 4-banger to shame in terms of longevity.
...But I digress - I'm thinking of two very different motors (an NA 13B built in 1988, and a TT 13B build in 1992). Who knows, maybe Mazda FINALLY got it right...
