here is another alternative, see my thread here.

To summarize: great sound quality, iPod out of the way (not in cup holder), yet accessible to view and select tracks (not in glove box). Plus a photo:

i know... i was just saying that i think $200 was kinda a lot just to be able to control the ipod from the steering wheel. but, maybe i'm just a cheapskate. <lol> my $20 sony casette adapter is adequate for me.

The adapter is C$150 (US$119). Bunny paid for installation.

The cassette adapter is fugly with all the wires hanging out and it doesn't perform all that well and you have to control the IPOD directly.

The cheapskate logic would have you buying a Hyundai Pony. It doesn't perform as well as the '8 but it's cheap and still works.

Well, it's only $110 for the AudioLink adapter, if you're content with your iPod laying around wherever you have it laying around right now. I paid the extra $75 for mounting convenience.

The $20 cassette adapter has unacceptable sound quality to me... What's the cheapest Aux-In for the RX-8? $80? I think that's the least I'd ever spend, otherwise I couldn't stand listening to the iPod in the car via the adapter.

I would of gone with the Audiolink a long time ago if I had the firmware.

geez... i didn't say that it was a bad idea- in fact, i said glad that she likes it.

to me, the so-called "premium" bose system in the 8 isn't that great anyways. so, the cassette player adapter is adequate for me, given what it is. if i had $200 to spend, i'd personally much rather put that towards a newer iPod since mine's a 3rd gen. that way, i could have an iPod for both my beamer & my 8... sorry if my practicality offends u. (i've never owned a hyundai pony yet.)

why does everything here turn into insults and arguments? sheez louise...

No intent to offend. It just seemed to be a strange place to try to save money.
