Funk Smell Coming From Vents

I have a smell that comes from the vents, it happens for a while and seems to disappear a little after. I have been told it smells like "hound dog" or "wet dog" while to me it smells kinda sweaty and farty.

I sprayed a Lysol through the car while running vents, and even through the outside between the windshield sprayers. It still smells a bit.

My 04 had 6K on it when I bought, there was rat/mouse poop in the tray below intake so something may have died in there. The AC may be smelling because mold though. Anyone have this problem and what was used or is recommended to use?

BTW I did a search here, nothing found. Thanks for help!

Have a look at your cabin air filters.. I bet they are NASTY!!!

I was shocked how dirty mine were. One of the filters was all torn up.

Cabin filter behind the glove box would be correct.

take it out, replace it.

It's definitely coming from the driver's seat.

they all cost about the same, regardless of the company.

Check Toyota, BMW, Honda, Ford, etc. All cost about the same. (well, maybe except for Benz & BMW & VW , they will cost double if not triple, just because they are made in Germany )

I wish I could claim that one, unfortunately it's a different odeur

I have pulled the filter out about 3 inches while reaching from underneath the glovebox. The previous owners did me the favor of replacing the filter. I'll pull it completely off and check the smell of it. I read all over it could be condenser mold fungi. That crap cant be too good to be breathing in
