Flooding really an issue?

Flooding really an issue?
Have had my 8 since May. It doesn't get driven too often as it will be my daughter's car when she starts driving next month. I don't think we've even put 2k on the car since we got it. Before buying, I made sure everything was up to date with Mazda as far as recalls and flashes, etc. And the original owner also kept meticulous service records. It's an 05 AT. I've read about the flooding and watched the DVD that came with the car about how to restart it when flooded and we actually had to do it once but I can't remember the circumstances that caused it to flood for sure. I think it was caused the good old fashioned way by my daughter throwing the gas pedal to it when trying to do a cold start.
I'm more curious about the scenario where you start the car up cold, back it out of the garage to wash it or whatever, cut it off and then go to restart it later. Should that be as much of an issue with all the recalls and flashes being up to date? Might it be more of an issue the colder it is outside? I'm not as likely to be washing it or just moving the car when it's cold anyway.

I think you are right about people using the throttle when trying to start the car . I'm buggered if i can get mine to flood after 5 yrs of ownership . Yet I take it to the tire shop and they flood it .
I'm like "how the f**k did you do that ?" !!!!
I think the "don't stop the engine when it is cold" thing is pure BS caused by people doing exactly what you suggested - could be wrong

hmm... well its not really an issue if you know what to do, and usually manual cars arent really good to go all the time, usually its best to warm them up compared to autos. but on my RX8 there really wasnt a time where i flooded it [or someone else]. like for example i let my cousin drive my car, and we were installing my Viper alarm at his house in vegas. we ran into some problems such as the check engine light so he turns the engine on, then a couple seconds later turns it off. this went on about 5-8 times. i even told him it was a bad idea but, not once did it flood. and im sure the engine was cold because it was sitting in his garage for a while.
i have an 05' WB MT

Yeah well, I always let my car warm up and in the first 86,000 miles I never flooded it and then one morning I backed it out while working on my dads car and shut it off cold. Well, it didn't start back up and it took two battery charges before the deflooding procedure worked. Then it happened again about six months later when I was out of town and my sister moved it and didn't let it warm up. When I got back I tried the deflood procedure and my battery was nearly dead when it fired up.
So, never say never. Even though I now have the BHR ignition kit i still don't shut it off cold.

Tell your daughter not to stab the throttle when starting it normally. I haven't have a flooding issue, but I make sure not to turn off when the engine is cold at all costs.

only ever flooded mine once. and its because i was working on something with the radio on, killed the battery. put the charger on it but forgot to plug it in. next day i turn it over and it started cranking but died and instantly i thought
that's the only way Ive got mine to flood, i start and stop mine all the time without warming up, doesn't hurt it at all.

Seeing as how mine just got flooded I'd say yes
If I have someone jump me and I keep doing the deflood procedure will it eventually work, or do I HAVE to get my car towed to the dealer? AND is this going to be covered?

If the deflood procedure doesn't work then just pull the plugs out/pull the fuel pump fuse and crank the car to blow all the raw fuel out of the chambers...once no more fuel comes out install plugs and fuse and fire up....
