Usually Chevron or Shell. BP (anyone remember Sohio?) when I lived in Ohio. I've used regular gas for every car I've ever owned so I've felt rather silly the couple of times I've gone with premium with the '8. Couldn't tell any difference so it'll be 87 from now on unless I'm planning on doing something unusual.

One thing is I refuse to buy gas from a station that charges for air/water unless I have no choice.

only put shell/chevron into my 8... i stay away from 76, i've only used them 3 times, each time i got the worst mileage ever... <16mpg, when i average 17-19mpg with shell/chevron. There isnt a BP around here, but they are known to have the best fuel...

I have been using Citgo for 10 years it is good gas no problems with deposits or mileage. I do believe that Shell has the best gas ie gives the best mileage. I have only on in my area and the price is .20 more which doesn't pay. Price today was 2.159 for prem

I always use 87 from Mobile or Chevron. BTW, all gasoline now sold in CA is MTBE free, if you're worried about the environment.

My last fill up of 87 was at $2.17 a gallon, which puts premium at $2.37...ouch!

oragematics, i know it might be a little of a drive, but for cheaper gas you should come down to La Habra, just west of Brea. We've got some of the cheapest gas in the OC.

I have 1200 miles on my 8 and have used Arco 87 most of the time. Shell 87 once and didn't notice any difference.

I'm getting about 220 per 11 gallons. Although it seems like I can see the gas gauge drop as I drive sometimes, anything close to 20 mpg works for me. I drive 70 to 75 on the highway and rev quickly (not flooring it, though) through 1st, 2nd, and part of 3rd on streets. Most of the streets around here have 35-40 speed limits; I tend to zip five to ten mph above those then hold steady, depending on how cop-safe the areas is.

After my first oil change, I plan to drive the car harder and then I will try different brands: Mobil, Shell, 76, Chevron, and Arco are the dominant players in Southern California.

I work for a (huge) oil company, in the most modern refinery in north america, but my post isn't to push their gas, just to pass on a little oil refiner wisdom.......

Stay away from a gas station if the delivery truck is around.

There is something called 'BS&W', "bottom standings & water", that is in every refinery tank and every sales tank. It is routinely measured, to give accurate inventory numbers.
Most of it is just water, with rust, scale, sand and mud, but sometimes 'other' stuff settles out of the gas.....the old refinery I used to work at had regular problems with 'losing' caustic soda, and a sulfur removal catalyst known as 'Merox'......it would go out to the tanks with the gasoline. (I will name names, it was Texaco, screw 'em!)

A paper fuel filter element and some caustic/merox make a nice blue mush.

To get back to that truck, if it's just pulling in, the tanks are empty and you will be buying fuel with 'crud', and if he is just pulling out, the crud has just been nicely stirred up. I don't have to explain what happens if you draw your fill-up WHILE it's actually dumping.

Ask any oil worker about BS&W, I couldn't make this stuff up....

IMO the best gas is Chevrontexaco if i can't afford it I go get it at sinclair or shell, I don't mind maverik gas since I know were it comes from (comes from sinclair, wyoming which is just north of were i am from) but you have to be very careful what maverik your get it from.

I hate you NJ people!!! Your gas is SOOOOO Cheap AND it's full serve! THATS NOT FIAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I paied 2.05 today...I almost cried..usually 25 bucks will fill up my tank...now it's more like 35...and i've yet to get my M flash..so i'm getting 13 mi to the gallon..*TEAR*

Only ever use Shell 91. Works great for me. I haven't got the "M" flash yet (I just got "L" and I did noticed an improvement in gas milage.

been using Chevron since a new station opened up a few weeks ago on my way from work to home.(I've been getting around 21.7 to very low 22s with it, even driving more in the 75-80 range than the previous normal 70-75 range[90 miles daily r/trip])
Agree on the truck theory - never get gas if it's on the lot - no matter if it's coming or going. I generally see people pumping while it's there with hoses in the ground (I have a very p/t job at a Wawa w/gas). And high volume stations would seemingly have fresher gas. I think in 'the old days' there was concern w/ sediment and /or water infiltrating a tank causing more concern than in modern times for low volume stations.
Techron is (or last I checked) was made by Chevron (one of the reasons I like their gas). Last year someone claimed Shell gas was 'better'. I tried it several consecutive tanks. IIRC, one tank had marginally better MPG, another had worse; not enough to justify higher cost and going out of my way to get to it.
I would like to present a challenge to the premium users: show me proof that the 8 gets a mileage improvement with premium to justify the cost. Perhaps more importantly to some, can anyone show that premium gains more than .2 second in the 1/4 mile or even .1 seconds in 0-60 time? Not saying .2 second is anything to sneer at, but for daily driving,why pay 10% more for 0-1 % performance gain, if that's even possible. I did the math, the mileage testing, with premium last year. Have the spreadsheet if anyone is interested.

I've tried Shell and Amoco/BP both Premium(93) and Regular(87).
My testing shows average of 19.05 mpg for AM/BP premium.
18.97 for shell premium.
CONSISTANT 21-21.09 for AM/BP and 20.75-20.91 for Shell.
My average fillup is 12.4 gals.
This isn't scientific. I've only done this for 2140 miles.
I bought mine 04/15/04.
I'm going to try Texaco regular for the next two fillups.

BTW. I 've dogged it pretty hard daily since my first 600 miles.
I'm still on my original oil. Time to flush.

This morning 87 gas was $1.76 at a station near me, when I came home from work, it was $2.04... nice hike.
