Favorite Gasoline?

Hello,

just curious to see what everyone has put into their 8. Premium ONLY of course...

I'm just curious:
I've been putting in MOBIL for all of my 4k miles now... I have put in exxon (only once $5 fill) because i desperately needed gas.

I believe that mobil is the most technologically advanced, so i love their fuels... However, gas prices for mobil have skyrocketed here. $2.21 per gallon for premium. THat's absurd!!!

What do you guys put in??
What brand of gas is your favorite?

SiMplyBluE 05-07-2004 10:25 AM

93 octance, prices are climing up. It was $1.77 today when I filled up. Had a feeling it was going to jump to $1.79 by the end of the day because the gas station opposite to the Sunoco one, I fill at had $1.79 in the morning. They usually have the same pricing. I really prefer ExxonMobil but fill up at the Sunoco since its closest and also cheaper.

Given that Mobil and Exxon are the same company, I'm not sure you're that far ahead of the game with one vs. the other. Actually, I figure all gasoline (if it's in specification) is made to meet mandated specifications and therefore, it's pretty much all the same. Then again, I take the same view with motor oil as well. I do steer clear of "7-11" gas varieties and try to stick to something with a name I've seen before, e.g. Shell, Exxon, Texaco, Chevron... Other than that, I don't figure it's all that important.

I always buy from exxon/mobil, shell/texaco, chevron, or bp/amoco.

As far as grade goes, i put my first tank of 87 in the car the other day and it seems to love every minute of it.

i always use exxon 91 seems to do fine

Nick T 05-07-2004 10:50 AM

2.079 for 93 today.

Sea Ray 05-07-2004 10:54 AM

I started off using Chevron, since I have their card, but switched to Shell. It just feels like it runs better. Premium generally unless it is a partial top off.

rx8miami 05-07-2004 11:13 AM

2.08 a gallon bp 93 octane

rjacobs 05-07-2004 11:19 AM

Amoco/PB premium. I knew somebody that worked for the EPA in their gas testing department(I know we shouldnt trust the EPA) and he told me that the Amoco premium is the best, not by a huge margin, but that it included the best detergents and stabilizers and what not so thats what I try to use.

loco4rx8 05-07-2004 11:21 AM

I use Exxon because of habit and because the station is the most convenient for me. I've always used 93 octane - this morning it was $1.89/gallon. :(

I may be dropping down to 89 octane next time, just to see if there's any difference - we don't have 91 octane around here.

AaronElCampeon 05-07-2004 11:26 AM

Go with Shell if your into hippie stuff. I know I am. Save the Whales!

ArvinC 05-07-2004 11:35 AM

My last 5 fill-ups...

...have all been with Shell 93. It's selling for $1.87/gallon at the station I visit. Overall, 93 is about $1.86-$1.99 here in Baltimore City and County.

Aside form the price, I like the Shell 'cause it "seems" that my fuel economy has improved since switching to it. Granted, a lot of factors go into fuel economy, but since it's still "cheap", I'm sticking with it.

First-time poster, longtime reader. Picked up my Titanium 8, Grand Touring Pack, 10 days ago and am loving it.

Gasoline: Whatever the dealer filled it up with would be great. I got about 24 mpg out of the first tank. Filled with Texaco premium on the second, and it doesn't appear I'm doing as well. I drive primarily highway, so the roads haven't changed. I have been a little more aggressive this time around, so I'm expecting the mileage to drop. Whatever, I'm not worried about it.

I expect to hang around here quite a bit. I've learned everything I know about the 8 by lurking here, so maybe now I'll contribute a little more.

Welcome to the flock! Where are you in NJ? Assuming you got an MT?

rxeightr 05-07-2004 12:23 PM

Welcome to the Club there, Father.

The 1st 10,000 miles saw at least 91 octane, usually from Texaco.

The last 4,000 miles have been 87 Shell, and mileage has improved from an average of 21.16 mpg to 21.75 mpg.

There is no good reason to use above a name-brand 87 octane for daily driving our non-modified RX-8's.

FatherPadilla 05-07-2004 12:35 PM

Thanks for the welcome, guys. Yeah, I wouldn't have anything other than an MT. I'm located in western NJ, right on the Pa. border, and I'm usually cruising along the Rte 78 corridor.

My bet would rather be a Kansas reference, from the Leftoverture album :)

Oh, and to keep this on topic: my favorite gasoline is the name brand (usually 87 octane) that is the cheapest :D

orangematics 05-07-2004 01:37 PM

Very nice, Tamas. Compliments on knowing the rather obscure reference. You're the first to make the connection among the many forums I've used it on. Those not in the know usually think I'm actually in the priesthood.

I'm a bigtime Wheathead from way back.:)

Do you guys realize that Exxon, Shell, whoever all refine their fuel and put it in the same pipeline? The fuel then may travel 2,000 miles and Texaco may pull out the fuel at a distribution center and add their own additives before delivering, by truck, to the retail outlet. Believe it or not both low octane and high octane fuels are run in the same pipeline.

The difference between brands is simply the amount and type of additives. Many of these additives are made by independent companies so two brands of fuel can have some of the same additives.

All that being said you should exclusively buy ExxonMobil fuel. Why? Cuz I own a bunch of their stock.

Re: Favorite Gasoline?

It's all market hype. All gasoline is the same. The only difference is different comapnies put in different detergent. Go to a big oil refinery you see see tankers from many different companies lined up there.

Just find the cheapest you can. Put in a bottle of Exxon Techron once in a while.

Offtopic: I was tracking their stock this past April for a project and make $800+ profit. :D Sorry to hijack the thread.
