8 Cylinder Rotary

Ha Ha was reading the Newark Star Ledger a local newpaper here in NJ and saw an ad from a car dealership which had as one of the options on the RX-8 an "8 cylinder rotary" Was wondering if this is a special edition?

Ok back to reading my paper...

When you get the M flash the engine morphs in to a 8 cyl. That is why everyone sez get the M flash.

Here's my 'my Rx-has x cylinders story:'

In 1989, I was in the military, playing mechanic. we suddenly get this transfer from another career field to be my new BOSS. This guy's a pencil pusher-turned-mech.

He thought his brand-new Rx-7 had six cylinders. He refused to belive me when I told him no, just two tiny tringles spinning around a central shaft.

Moron. What's worse, he told me 'he couldn't afford the rotary so I went for the base model with six cylinders.'

If you're reading this, *******, the bad review you and your non-mechanically inclined atrophied mind of yours left me at E-4 for 2 more years than would have been expected. Every single Rx-anything EVER made has *never* had pistons.

Sorry, had to vent.. but getting slammed like that by such a moron boils my blood today still.

You readin', Sgt Jackson? How's your six-banger? Fried, probably, judging by how ham-fisted you were back then. Oh I hope you roasted it till it hurt REAL bad. Wankels and people with -30 IQs don't mix at all.

The salesman should be fired.

I would have called in the car's licencse plate # to the cops in a heart beat if I had seen it happen. No one should drive 132 mph on a public road. In a car they haven't driven before. Ridiculous.

Uh, BasenjiGuy...am I missing something here or did you reply to the wrong thread? Or do you have a Monty Python sense of humor?

Wow, a 4 rotor Subaru WRX SVX, XYZ, PDQ. Rare indeed.

You've got pistons that control the clutch (master and slave), you've got pistons for the brakes (master and 4 for the wheels). I don't know where the other one is but it's somewhere.

You know, we haven't argued about whether this is a 1.3 L engine or a 2.6 L engine in a while. Let's do that again. I say it's a 2.6 L engine.

Every full turn of the flywheel combusts 1.3 L. In a 2.6 L piston engine, every full turn of the flywheel combusts 1.3 L. Case closed.

Rotary engines don't have cylinders. Flatso was pointing out that the newspapaper screwed up. And most posts after that were sarcastic jokes.

Here's a good overview

2.6 vs 1.3

I say it's a 1.3 and every other engine on the road that only displaces half of it's displacement per revolution is wrong.

that 4.6 liter mustang should really be a 2.3.

I see your 4.6 and raise you to a 5.0. Am I bluffing, or am I serious? I guess we'll never know.

In Latin the V is also the U. I have struggled with the SVX since it's inception because every time I see one I want to yell out YOU SUCK! Not that I think it's a bad car (I really don't know much about it) but only because of the name.
