I just 12.5 mpg all city.
Usually I get 14 city and 17 maybe 18 highway.
I'm think I am going to have it checked out.
Is anyone else getting this bad a mileage?

My warning light comes on at 200 miles. It runs out of gas at 227 miles.
My RX-8 consumes gas so fast, I can actually see the needle move.
I was doing some 3rd gear tuning pulls for the E-Manage on Thursday night and after each one (about 20 seconds at WOT in 3rd), the gauge was a little lower.
When I was done for that session, I had driven 35 miles and a full tank had dropped to just above 3/4.
I'm at 3890 miles and I will fill it tomorrow with tank number 22.
That works out to 200 per tank, 13.8 gallons per fill.

Tank number 5 or 6 was highway ONLY and it made absolutely no difference.

I routinely get 270 per tank (mostly highway since this is my commute car). But, driving hard on a windy grade I've used just shy of a quarter tank in just over 40 miles. I think the EPA numbers are probably best case for my 8. If I get into it, it will be less (sometimes much less). Kinda what I expected.

I noticed MPG going down slightly, but I think it's because I'm more comfortable driving it harder. My last reading was 14 MPG. I drive in strictly stop and go city traffic. I average between 14 and 19 MPG city, dependent upon my driving habits. I have to say I didn't buy the car for economy but, rather performance and handling. I'll take this car any day over a car that's less exciting to drive and offers 10 MPG more! On the other hand it seems that Mazda slighted us twice by programing the car to run rich for EPA concerns and as a result gives us less power and worse fuel economy. Mazda would do right by offering us a high flow high heat catalytic converter,or offer a new cat periodically untill warranty ends and reflashing back to it's original parameters. This would make the EPA and consumers very happy, and one, in which from a consumer standpoint, we earnestly deserve!

I don't measure by tank (I find per gallon to be more accurate), but here are my early results:
First tank (Under 300 miles) 12.8
Second Tank (Highway Driving) 16.5
Third Tank (Spirited Driving up & down mountains) 16.9
With any luck the trend will continue. I was very surprised to see 16.9, considering I was in the mid to upper RPM range quite often.

I find that 3 tanks in I am doing about 220 per tank. The problem I find is that at my regular motorway speed (92 Mph) the revs are running at 4.5k so I guess I am never going to get great milage. Just to make any americans feel better about themselves it cost me £43 ($76) per refill.
Still I didn't buy it for fuel economy..

I've been keeping track of my mpg and i'm getting around 15 to 16 miles per gallon. I've got about 8000 on my 8 and everytime my light comes on around 200 miles when i'm driving back and forth to work but when i drive back and forth to MD the best I got was about 240 miles total. But even though the MPG suck I still love the car.

I normally get 210-220 mostly city, filling up what I guess is right before the light comes on. Though on my trip from Florida to Buffalo I would consistently get 305-315 (usually 80 miles per 1/4 tank mark) keeping the cruise at around 80-85. I've heard that cruise control can help mileage a lot, but I have no sources to back this up.

Well on this last tank i really let it rip. 1st 2nd and 3rd gear redline shifts when ever possible. no running in 6th gear, usually staying in 4th even at highway speeds just to play with the power available above 5 k.a few times running in 5th on the highway at 65-70 mph. 173 miles on 14.18 gallons for my lowest mileage ever on this car- 12.2 mpg!! hehehe. it was alot of fun and worth every penny so on this tank i am going to shift no later than 3500 in each gear and try to get to 6th as soon as possible every time,so at about 45 mph and above. ill let you know what i get this time.

i noticed that my mileage stinks during the first half of the tank of a gas ie from Full to 1/2 i can literally see the needle move and my mileage is awful. Then from 1/2 to E i dont see as dramatic a move in the needle and i seem to get more mileage out of that portion of the tank. I dont drive any differently throughout the tank.
i also notice that when i am at Full I get a pretty good move of the needle from the F indicator within a 10-15 miles or so.
Most all of my driving is city driving.
Is it possible that the measuring device for the fuel is not entirely accurate?
Anyone else notice this?

However, it is usually backwards from the way that you are relating the experience you are having with your gauge.
Typically, the first half goes slowly and the second half much more quickly.
Mine is similar to yours in that the first 15 miles or so makes the gauge move about 1/8 right away. The movement is perceptible if you watch the gauge long enough instead of the road.
Another 25 miles and it is 3/4 full.
It takes about 100 miles to get all the way to 1/2 and the light comes on in another 100 miles.
The car then runs out of gas 25 - 30 miles later.

We, too, have noticed the action of the fuel gauge is not linear, and that it drops more quickly during the first several miles when compared to those nearer the end. We can live with that, but it was a bit scary when we didn't know what fuel economy to expect. Reports of 13 and 15 mpg had us worried. We can happily report, after 1,000 primarily city miles, that we have averaged 19.9 miles per (U.S.) gallon.

But it's good to hear that a 300 mile range is not out of the question, since that is usually where I like to stop (300 miles north of home) on that trip.

Picked my RX-8 up on the 10th of January, drove it in city only, it had 800 miles on it when I got it. Went 210 miles, was running on fumes cause I put 15.14 US gals in the tank. All city, almost all fun, had to see how it accelerated when possible. MT, DSC on assumed premium gas was used by dealer and they filled it up (Showed full at drive off). I knew the mileage would suck this tank, expected it to and didn't care that it did. 13.9 miles/Gal that tank.
Took it out for a road trip with 90% highway, averaging 72 MPH in 6th, filled up with 12.3 gals and went 215 miles to get 17.5 miles to the gallon.
Not that I am expecting this to be economical on fuel but I expected at least 20 MPG on the highway. My 6 cyl. Dakota averaged 14 city 17 highway so it's better mileage but a whole helluva lot more of an enjoyable ride. Our "pracical" vehicle is a Honda CRV and it averages around 20 overall with little more on highway only.
I didn't get this car for fuel economy I got for my Need to Speed, or at least to launch fast! So, all in all, I am getting about what I expected.
Took it out for a road trip with 90% highway, averaging 72 MPH in 6th, filled up with 12.3 gals and went 215 miles to get 17.5 miles to the gallon.

I never go more than 5 miles past the gas light coming on. It's usually around 13.4 gals to fill and my trip meter is around 180. I must really have a lead foot... oh well... it's all good. Zoom Zoom Zoooooooooooom! Oh... 91 octane Mobil/Shell/Sunoco
